I'm going through the print-on-demand service Lightning Source. This is the company used by POD company Lulu.com. Darryl Sloan advised missing out Lulu and going direct to the printer. You have to shell out more money that way, but you get to create your own publishing name, which means the book doesn't get listed as a Lulu release. I decided it was worth it just for that.
Lightning Source will supply me directly as well as Amazon et al.
When people ask me where they can get the book, I want to be able to say, "Through me. But you can also order it from any book shop or from Amazon." In actual fact, it doesn't matter where you can get it from, it's still the same book. But in the minds of the public, it does matter. Book shops and Amazon make it more proper in their eyes.
Will.
