This thing is for real. Rest assured AOL and Intel will follow Through with their promises for fear of facing a multimillion-dollar class action suit similar to the one filed by Pepsi-Cola against General Electric not too long ago.
Dear Friends; Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates is sharing his fortune. If you ignore this, You will repent later. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test. When you forward this e-mail
to friends, Microsoft can and will Track it (If you are a Microsoft Windows user)? For a two weeks time period. For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and ! for every third person that receives it, You will be paid $241.00. I thought this was a scam myself, But two weeks after receiving this e-mail and forwarding it on. Microsoft contacted me for my address and within days, I receive a check for $24, 800.00. You need to respond before the beta testing is over. If anyone can afford this, Bill gates is the man. It's
all marketing expense to him. Please forward this to as many people as possible. You are bound to get at least $10, 000.00. We're not going to help them out with their e-mail beta test without getting a little something for our time. My brother's girlfriend got in on this a few months ago. When I went to visit him for the Baylor /UT game. She showed me her check. It was for the sum of $4, 324.44 and was stamped 'Paid in full'
Like I said before, I know the law, and this is for real. Intel and AOL are now discussing a merger which would make them the largest Internet company and in an effort make sure that AOL remains the most widely used program, Intel and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.
When you forward this e-mail to friends, Intel can and will track it (if you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time

Well, folks, I've got two things to tell you.
One, I'm moving house tomorrow and I won't be back online for a couple of weeks.
Two, since I am moving, work on Anne Droyd has had to be suspended. I'll get back on with it as soon as I'm in and straight. This will probably lead to a delay in release. The book is now more likely to be published in September.

Having read all the comments and critiques regarding the cover artwork for ANNE
DROYD AND THE HOUSE OF SHADOWS I feel compelled to "put in MY penneth!"
All in all I feel the marrying of the font with the wonderful artwork is
successful so-far.
The overall effect when seen on bookshelves is (I'm sure) going to be very
appealing to young readers.
With a logo of her own, Anne has now moved up a notch. Once a final "look" has
been decided it will prove vital to stick with it and emboss ALL future editions
of BOTH books with it.
Darryl's logo is clearly readable, memorable and beautifully reflects the
underlying and ongoing theme throughout the books. It also gives the 'product'
an instantly recognisable image that, if reproduced WITHOUT a cover
illustration (on spin-off merchandise for example) leaves no doubt about it's
connection with the mainstream product.
Hopefully it will become just as recognisable as the Harry Potter logo (which
has now provided a new Font for graphic designers to use).
Well done to all concerned.

I was a little uncertain about the glow at first, and the way the letters go up on a slant like the Star Wars logo (though I loved the font from the off).
But I find with time it has grown on me. The purpose of the cover is that it attracts the browsing reader, and both the painting and the logo will certainly do that.
My step-daughter says she likes the way the "gothic" art is contrasted by the sci-fi logo. A member of Big Finish Productions says he likes it. Laura Diehl, who did the painting likes it.
This is not me attacking your comments, James :)) I'm just saying that the general consensus seems to be Darryl Done Good.
I still have time to change my mind about it, in any case!
> Realism doesn't come into it. How often do you see text hanging in mid-air like that?
I beg to differ, and again, for my final attempt at clarification on this point: I was talking about the illustration's appearance of nature... How the text conforms to the illustration is the differentiator between either going beyond or conforming. I was leaning towards conformity for a sense of blending. But am not against going beyond, to me it just doesn't look as clean.
Glad to hear other opinions as it helps to give some broader perspective.

Realism doesn't come into it. How often do you see text hanging in mid-air like that, let alone take the time to remark how light is hitting it?
I think the effect is fine.

Thank goodness for that!
I know he brought Doctor Who back to the masses but the man is so
smug that it's sickening. I can barely watch those Doctor Who
Confidentials after the main programme on BBC3 because it's full of
self-satisfied and self-congratulatory twaddle from Davies and his
cronies.
Also I've got nothing against gay people, but the constant gay
references in Doctor Who are gratuitous in the extreme. It's just
not needed.
Good riddance to him.

I know. I was probably a tad over-sensitive on this one. :-)
Darryl
Good point Darryl, and as this project doesn't directly affect me, I'm only offering my honest opinion. Just as you have kindly done for me in the past.
I've learned that if one must explain, then "it" might not be doing the intended job. Perhaps the two of us who responded are only doing so out of ignorance, or perhaps as an artist its sometimes hard to see through different eyes. Whatever the case, clarity is a good idea, and seeking additional feedback may not be a bad move. Again, I think everything else turned out extremely well. This was my only suggestion as something that didn't quite stand out right to me. I don't think it's bad by any means, I just think it interrupts the flow and might be a little confusing to some.
p.s. By natural, I meant the illustrated picture. Yes, it's not a photograph, but it represents elements of nature: tree, bushes, sky, house, stars, moon, grass, etc. All elements of earthly nature, and even though it's a little cartoony, it's done in the sense of "realism". But as you say, this isn't an issue since you are using a different method towards a different goal. I just wanted to clarify my point as to not cause confusion.

Julie,
I'm not hurt. I was more concerned that Will was going to simply ask me to remove the glow because two people didn't get where I was coming from. I kind of reacted, because it was pretty tricky to get it to look just like that. If you look carefully at the glow, you'll see it grows slightly denser towards the edges, then there's a subtle mistiness beyond that. There was more to producing this effect that a simple click-outer- glow-select- range.
James,
'Fraid I can't accept your stance on this one. The logo was designed to represent Anne Droyd, so I went with the idea of metal aglow with a sort of electrical forcefield. There's nothing "natural" intended about any of it. It's not suppose to be subtle. It's supposed to represent an android girl who stands out with dynamic superhuman qualities. I think the problem is we're all referring to it as an "outer glow," whereas that isn't really
what it's supposed to be.

No offence intended. Visuals are a touchy thing for many. I did consider that the effect was meant to represent metal, and am glad to have it confirmed that this was the intention.
You wrote: "I think you're objecting because it's not the traditional way to do a

I'd glad to say I'm sincerely not biased in that manner. My husband is a writer/artist in his spare time - I greatly appreciate originality and difference.
Darryl, your feelings are clearly hurt from your writing - I hereby embrace your 'fierce blue-tinged glow'. It's going to look fantastic:)!!
Julie(the sincere apologiser:))

Grr! The fierce blue-tinged glow is deliberate. The title was supposed
to make you think electrically- charged metal. :-)
I think you're objecting becuase it's not the traditional way to do a
typical glowing edge.
HA! I know what you are saying Darryl, but to me an "outer glow" should follow the same natural principles as a Drop Shadow. The robotic style on the font is good, but the effect produced by the font should look natural. If I am a robot and the sun hits me, my shadow won't look any more sharp than if I were a human (which I only sometimes claim to be ;-) ). Obviously an outer glow isn't as restrictive as a shadow, however as I said I believe similar natural principles should apply.
That said, with any form of art it can go beyond nature to produce it's own look and feel. In my opinion, as a Senior Designer by trade, this particular design would look cleaner as stated since everything on the page exists in the natural element in one form or another. One thing I've noticed in my career is that no two designers totally agree with each other, in fact, few can be as ruthless as two designers critiquing each others work ;-) which is why I always try to have an objective explanation that follows some form of logic. Feeble as it sometimes may be :-)

Better still, go to www.willhadcroft. com, double click on the image there, and get a closer look.
And don't forget to alert all your friends, nephews, nieces, and dare I say it, grandchildren.
Looks good Will. the only thing I'd suggest is to tone down a little on the "Outter Glow" of the "Anne Droyd" text. Just a touch less opacity, as it looks a little sharp. The other text blends in great!

I like it. It looks like a scene from a horror movie. Will must have
had the cover artist get to work around halloween last year! It's got
a nice spooky theme to it.

>>Last week's episode about Agatha Christie was the worst I've ever seen.<<
I would say that Voyage of the Damned was awful, Partners in Crime wasn't much better, and The Unicorn and the Wasp was a wasted opportunity (the trailer looked great, but the episode itself was disappointing).
I thought last year's finale with the Master was too easy (throw a big level and turn time backwards - a liiiiiiiittle too easy!). I didn't care much for the way Davies wrote the Master either, though John Simm was more than competent.
Russell T Davies did a great job in re-imagining Doctor Who. People who hated the original series now find the concept accessible never miss an episode. His best offering as writer, I think, is The Parting of the Ways (Eccleston's last episode for those who don't know the titles).
In this year's series, so far, I loved Planet of the Ood and enjoyed The Sontaran Stratagem.
I was getting a bit weary of Davies dropping in references to his own world view whenever he could. If I did that with my writing, I would be accused of preaching. All writers draw on their preoccupations, but in an ongoing television series it becomes very obvious if it is not curtailed. Hopefully Moffat will restrain himself when it comes to it.
Steven Moffat is a different writer with a different world view. His stories have been the best. With him in the driver's chair, I am daring to hope Doctor Who will see a return to form.

Something had to change. "Who" has gone completely off the rails of
late. It has mostly become an exercise in camp nonsense, especially in
season 4.
Last week's episode about Agatha Christie was the worst I've ever seen.
Darryl
In case you haven't heard, it's official: Russell T Davies will write and produce the specials next year, and then when the show returns for a full series in 2010, Steven Moffat will be Head Writer and Executive Producer.
Moffat wrote "The Empty Child" (Are you my mummy?) for Eccleston, and "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "Blink" for Tennant. He is my favourite writer on the 21st century incarnation.
Personally, I think this change has come just at the right time for the series.
Thanks for sharing the previews - great to see the progression.
Best Wishes, Julie

Friends,
Check out our Anne Droyd web site for the stunning new cover painting by Laura Diehl.
Actually, I don't have a multi-book deal. I'm doing this one myself through a Print-On-Demand service. However, the plan is to attract big name publishers by demonstrating the ongoing appeal of Anne. I have no doubt at all that I will secure a deal - it's just a question of when.
In answer to your question about how old I was when I started being published: I was 27 when my first fanzine articles were published, and 30 when I was commissioned to write the original edition of Anne Droyd and Century Lodge. By the time I was signed by Jessica Kingsley Publishers for the Asperger edition of Century Lodge and my autobiographical account The Feeling's Unmutual I was 33.
By the time House of Shadows comes out, I will be 38!
Will,
Congratulations on your latest manuscript. I take it you've got a
multi-book deal with your publisher. By the way what age were you at
the time of publication of you first novel? I've been researching the
details of some of the autistic prose writers regarding their
publishing history.
I'am currently doing the creative writing course from the Bureau and
I've begun money making writing. I've been working on a couple of
short stories for Interzone. A magazine dedicated to publishing sci-
fi shorts. I'm not sure about the money but it's negotiable.
As for work, well I've given up on looking for jobs. I've had enough
of all this obliviousness and ignorance from my parents. It was a
failure of communication that made me a nothing and lost my teen
college years.
