Born from a stone egg, hatched by the elements, on top of the Mountain of Fruit and Flowers, the Stone Monkey was accepted by other monkeys, and made their king when he showed he was the bravest, being the only one to dare jumping through a waterfall on the mountain. The Mountain of Fruit and Flowers became the Kingdom of Fruit and Flowers.

King Monkey went in search of knowledge, mainly the secrets of immortality, and met a master Taoist who took him in and taught him The Way, naming him Son Aware of Vacuity, because the monkey had no name, due to no parents.

Monkey began causing problems after he left the master Taoist. He bullied the Dragon King into giving him a special weapon, and then caused havoc in Heaven, fighting with angels and stealing peaches and pills of immortality and wine of the gods.

The gods tried to punish him, but he was too strong and literally indestructable. Lao Tzu tried to burn Monkey in his furnace, but all it did was make Monkey's eyes turn into "Fiery Golden Eyes" granting him the ability to see through deception and over long distances.

In the end, only Tathagata Buddha, the father Buddha, could contain the irrepressible ape. A boy priest released Monkey in exchange for his service as a bodyguard/disciple.
