As you listen to the BBC then u may find this posting from Jim G4AEH amusing.
He is  a freelance News Reader and BBC Links announcer,
Jim originates from Nuneaton area and was always a good signal on 160 metres AM/SSB.

Just shows u have to be careful what you say on air even if you are a proffesional.
You never know who is listening !

He was spotted on World Service by another local amateur who is at present working in the Canary Islands.
Not sure what ur foundation status restricts you to in VK land.
Remember you telling me about the differences on repeater operation in NZ ?
Perhaps work you on 40 metres / Mobile , Some time when I am away camping as get some decent Propogation on 7.0 MHZ into Australia on occasions !!
Even with a small whip and 50 watts or less.

Hello mate
On holiday or back there for good?

Interesting about QFM - stations abroad often choose the World Service for overnights.
It's not a promotion - just in addition to everything else I do as a freelance.I've been reading the news on Radio 2 for about two and a half years now. But not for much longer!  There are cuts to be made details tba but it's almost certain that there'll not be much call for freelancers after September.
Janice and I sit in adjoining studios (she and Alex moved down from Birmingham in April) so we can actually see each other now.  For the other 55 minutes I usually write my BBC7 scripts, read the paper, wander down to Janice's studio and just occasionally, have a snooze!
See yer

Jim
I happen to tune into one of the local radio stations here (QFM) in the early hours of the morning and heard you reading the news. It relays Radio 2 during during the night when it has no programming of its own. I thought it was a pre-record from you, but you were actually having banter with Janice Long. (about near misses or something)  Then you popped up yesterday morning too, this time about 4am I think.

So the news takes 5 minutes to read (say), what do you do for the othe the 55 minutes of the hour?

Is this a promotion from BBC7 and the World Service?

Hi Alex, well i am now living in Brisbane well 19km south of the city canter on the east coast of Australis.
I have asked for VK4FSIH   for my new callsign VK  = Aust 4= Queensland F= foundation and sih = si for Simon and H is first letter of last name.
I will register it with QRZ when license comes in the mail next week.
As i have family in Leicester i will be back one day for a holiday, so i will call in to the club on a Monday night or at a time when meeting.
I still listen to BBC 2, 4, 5 or talksport online sometimes and read the UK papers just to keep informed what s happing back there.
That new shopping canter in the city that was started when i was there must almost be compleat.
I have seen the clubrooms on Google earth.
I enjoy getting the emails from the yahoo groop.
All the best Simon 73 m3sih
