Hello,

I am new to the world of gardening,
having just moved to a house that actually has
one!

But I need help!!

There are two existing
borders, that have been completely dug over and I want
them to be gorgeous by this time next year ( I thought
I might be too late to plant anything now?). The
soil is clay, they both back onto walls and the garden
is NE facing, so are often shaded How should I
prepare them, what could I plant (bearing in mind I don't
have too much money to spend, and I have young
children and pets so it would have to be 'safe' plants)
and when should I do it all? Any help or advice would
be oh so appreciated

Thank
Melissa

I have added two pics to the group album.
They are scans of the leaves from a bush, that is growing in my front
garden.
The bush is one I was given by a woman whose garden I had turned over
about a year ago. The Leaves are green with dark red edges. The
branches have a reddish brown colour with a green underside.
It stands about 18 inches tall and is woody, similar to that of a
privet. I have planted it at the back of my raised herb tub as I
quite like the look of it.
Can you identify this plant ?
Please contact me at Kennethnicholson@...
I live in the north east of scotland and would like any advice or
tips on suitable container plants for the scottish weather. I would
really like something which would look nice but not need much care,
and would grow almost anywhere.
Can anyone help.?

post a few more pix in neath exotix album.Hope these may show how
you can break away from the normal bedding plants and go for the
more unusual.Cheers Rich

Well afetr a frantic winter we have totally redesigned the layout of
our garden. We currently have a huge supply of ricinus(all grown from
seed)sitting all over the house ready for the weather to pick up.We
have decided to post a few more photos just showing what the new
layout looks like before everything gets planted and takes off.
The best advice I can give is to use a glyphosate
weedkiller but this will only be effective towards the end of the autumn when
the weed is dyingback. If you coat the leaves and stems as the plant receeds it
will pull the weedkiller down to its roots and kill it.Trying to attack the
problem when the plant is growing is a little futile as it grows so quickly.
Also reomve any flower heads before they shrivel and set seed....Its a tough and
long winded job but it will work...it works for Japanese Knotweed and thats
worse.
well I hope this is usefull.

any labels and I haven't got a clue what they are.Are they house or
garden plants? If you look in Photos you will see them. Can any one
help?Thank you.
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Bluebells. They keep on sprouting
up all over my garden, in the lawn, cracks in the paving. Even though
they look very pretty I'm not a big fan of them.I've tried digging
them out but the leaves and flowerheads only break off and i can't dig
and leave big holes in my lawn.Any ideas? Thank You.
I've just been planting out my lovely plants in the garden but the
local cats keep digging them up as well as using that particular
patch as their toilet area.Besides,it not being hygenic it also
stinks!! Is there any way of detering them away without harming them
or my plants? Please help as I'm going CRAZY!!! Thanks.
