IIRC, Damian Eadie has said that there will be
1 permanent host chosen - rather than having
regularly changing guest hosts as on BBC TV's
"Have I Got News For You". But that does not
mean that only 1 person will be auditioned for
the host's job. Nor does it mean that Digance
is the final choice to get the host's job for
what would be Series 54 of Countdown.
Personally speaking, while Digance would not
be among people I'd list as the worst choices,
he wouldn't be on my shortlist for people who
I'd select for the host's job. There are IMO
better choices in terms of picking a comedian
to host. And IMO, better choices in terms of
picking someone with previous experience of
hosting a TV show (e.g. a quiz show).
But whatever happens, the producers can only
select from the people who are prepared to
make themselves available at a price that is
within Countdown's budget.
And if that means we get someone who would be
about 5th upon our lists of who we would
ideally chose for the new host's job, rather
than the 1st or 2nd choice?
Well IF they can eventually do the job at a
good enough standard ....
And it means that we don't end up having
'Braindeath' as the new host ....
