Anna, I'm one of the quiet ones, also from North London. This question
might get a discussion going: why are there so few excellent female
contestants on Countdown?

Since I appeared in 2003, when I lost narrowly to a lady from Essex after
having an 8-letter word disallowed, there have been 263 females on the show.
I have beaten 257 of them (98% success rate) but against males only win
about 82% of the time. I don't recall there ever being a female wunderkind
like Conor Travers. This is surprising, given that girls generally do
better at school than boys. Perhaps it's just that I am more determined
against females as a form of catharsis after my own loss!

So what happened to all the other members? Looking at the site it looks
like you have over 200 members. Are they just a bit quiet?
