Do the maths.
The number of persons who might watch one or more
Countdown episodes this year:
Over 2,000,000.
1% of those 2 million+ viewers = 20,000+
The number of persons who 'certain people' might
know of from playing tournament Scrabble in real life:
2,000 - if you are very lucky.
The number of persons who have ever played a game of
Countdown at a Countdown club, at a COBRIS/COLIN type
of gathering, or in an online game:
Probably under 1,000.
------------
Would you chose to rely upon a telephone directory
which had almost every name, except one, missing from
each double page? Of course not.
I'd therefore suggest that any personal opinions which
"certain people" may hold, regarding the possibility
that unknown persons out there might be incapable of
performing specific wordspotting feats without cheating,
surely ought to be treated as nothing more than a sign
of the fact that "certain people" have themselves got
extremely poor judgement.
And that only a fool would continue would continue to
seek the advice of those "certain people" on matters
relating to whether or not cheating was taking place.
