Hi all,

i'm quite happy to lead the prayer time on the 19th with the stuff i
prepared for the last meeting if that's want people want to do? ...

I was also wondering if there was an evening carol service we could
go to afterwards together seeing as it's so close to Christmas?
though i guess it's likely a few of you will already have commitments
at your regular churches that evening...
i'll bring some mince pies to get us in the spirit of things anyway!

Hello all

I've been told no message was recieved re: Sunday. I was asked to
work at short notice and agreed without thinking, by the time I
realised I'd double booked myself it was too late to cancel the
shift.

I did phone but had to leave a message on the BT answer service
which I guess wasn't recieved in time, either that or I left a
message on a complete strangers phone... :(

I am sorry. I realise others put time and effort into preparing and
I was looking forward to it.

Yes, thanks Stuart for a thought provoking Bible study and discussion.  Apologies Esther for not getting round to the time of prayer and thanks to everyone else for coming along and participating.

I was thinking similar thoughts to rae.  I think starting next meeting with a good time of prayer would be right, since time got the better of us on Sunday past.

The Big Dress squares went well - it was relaxed, therapeutic, fun with enjoyable conversation and a good few laughs over spelling mistakes and our shortcomings as artists.  Since there is still a need for squares and we have plenty more resources then I'd be happy to decorate some more next month.

On the Bible study front - we did, as Esther said, "leave with more questions than we started with", so it would be good to explore a bit further.  At the same time carrying on directly from last month makes it harder for those who weren't there to join us.  So I think we should utilise some of the themes raised but ensure that participation is not dependant upon being there last Sunday.  Stuart would you be happy to chair / lead again?

Rae, I may take you up on your offer, time permitting - its amazing how often I leave my Bible somewhere - its even been known to evangelise without me : )

Hi all

Sunday's meeting went really well, I reckon - a good Bible study and an enjoyable time painting. Thanks Stuart and Brian for preparing!
Towards the end we were wondering about the next meeting's Bible study....... so here is a suggestion.
We decorated 9 big dress squares and there are only 36 left to do! So how about starting with a longer time of prayer then spending the rest of the time decorating more squares and possibly further discussing the many points raised in this Sunday's Bible study? Or.....?

Also, if anyone is feeling bored or can't wait till the next meeting to express their artistic, creative side again, or even if you left something behind, then you're welcome to come round before then.

Hello all

Apologies for missing Sundays meeting, I'm assuming my message did get passed on!  I was looking forward to it too :(

I'm obviously a bit behind on the big dress squares (I even had them all planned out in my head) so if there's an opportunity for us to meet up and do some more 'decorating' then I'll happily come along :)

I'm know this doesn't fall under any of the current Speak campaigns,
but I'm aware of the existance of a healthcare sphere and figured it
might be worth posting.

Lib Dem MSP Jeremy Purvis has leveled a motion at Holyrood calling
for people to have the right to die with dignity and essentially
calling for a change in the law on euthanasia.

The House of Lords is also currently considering Lord Joffe's
bill "Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill" at Westminster.

There is also going to be a conference in Edinburgh on January 15th
2005 re: euthanasia with the aforementioned MSP as one of the
speakers.

Just thought I'd bring it to peoples attention if anyone was
concerned.

Hi
Most of us will have received the email from Lucy (shown below in case you haven't!).
I've emailed back with the web address of this yahoo group so that Lucy can join or read the messages.
As only a few out of the larger list have joined this, we should probably send out another email soon about the next meeting (or meetings)? Should we try and encourage more people to join the yahoo group?

Next Speak meeting is on the 28th (a week on Sunday) at Rae's.  I sent Jo an email to send out about it.  I think we left the Bible bit up to Stuart to decide exactly what he was doing, and Esther agreed to lead the prayer time.

For the big dress I have purchased fabric, fabric paints, brushes, glitter pens, kids craft things etc., but if you have arty stuff that would be useful feel free to bring it along.

Speak uses the flower model so that everyone in the network (Speak is not an organisation) has a voice on what we campaign about.  As a local group it is up to us what we focus on.  My feelings would be that we chiefly support the main Speak campaign(s) and issues of geographical proximity - e.g. G8 summit, Scottish Parliament etc. being careful not to spread ourselves too thinly.

Thanks Rae.  I'd seen it promoted on their website and kept meaning to phone/email/make a nuisance of myself to find out more about it.  :)  I also came across 'Lift The Label' (Tearfund).

I think it might be part of the youth/student site, but thought I'd point it out all the same.  From what I can gather there're having a weekend of action 3-5th December.

I meant to ask this at the last meeting, but forgot - who is it that decides which issue (eg: Arms trade, fair trade) we campaign?  Social justice is obviously a pretty broad topic and I'd just like to be a little clearer on what we should be concentrating on at the moment.  I guess I might be better to ask Lucy.  Hmm.

Can I just confirm plans for the 28th? (yes, I was paying attention last meeting :P)  I know we had the Big Dress thingy plus there was some talk of a study on Amos.  Correct?  Anything else?

Thanks,

Eilidh

Bummer, I I'd like to see the film if others are going, but can't make
Wed or Thur evening. If anyone is able to go to Thur 14.15 (the

Just back from watching "the corporation" and it is well worth seeing and taking others along when you go. It has disgusting stories of corporate greed but inspiring stories of successful campaigns and a powerful encouragement to be active!!

Hello again,

I think Thursday might be unlikely - I need to be elsewhere by 7pm :(

I could go tonight, but as you say, it doesn't give anyone else much
of an opportunity. Ack. :(

Hi Eilidh
I could make the 5:10pm showing on Thurs - are you ok with that?
It is also on at the UGC, eg at 7:50pm tonight - though that wouldn't give others in the group much time to check their emails!

Is anyone going to the Human Richts conference at Findlay this weekend?
Lemme know! :) http://www.dontstandinsilence.info/

Thank you, David, for getting the group set up.  Looks good :)

Hi
Thanks for that news, I hadn't heard of the film. I'm interested in
going though it looks as if it finishes at the gft on Thursday.
Times are;
Tue 14:15 & 18:00
Wed 14:15, 17:10 & 20:00
Thurs14:15, 17:10 & 20:00

I can't make Wednesday but Tuesday at 6pm or Thursday at 8pm would be
ok with me.

Thanks David for setting up the group.

Rae
