Hi folks, I won't make it tomorrow, some long overdue DIY needed in our house.  Really fancy the ride/BBQ but was wondering if anybody else would prefer a Fri night or maybe a Sat.  I know I'll be cream crackered on the Thurs or will have to leave early the night before.  Alos I was wondering if we did it on a Sat if we could do some kind of awareness/recruitment thing, we spoke about this in the past when wondering how we could get more people along.  Maybe we could combine it with the Bike Patrol.

Yeah thanks, lol. i think i did the honourable thing, but the kind intention was fast forgotten cos i was late home from work tonight and missed a tv prog we normally watch together,so she is in a huff once again! Why are girls so hard work!! i bet she wont be complaining come pay day and she spends all my overtime bonus tho, lol.

Good luck with the magic on sat,i will be nursing a hangover on sat morn and sizing up another beer for the 2night of the stag weeknd. I will hopefully see u guys at the ride/bbq in just under 2weeks and will be there for the sat sesh next time!

Mark - Good man!  Route wise, reckon it'd be good to mix things up - bit of man made stuff, best of the cheeky natural stuff ; ).  Slay it all!  Perhaps some lift assistance could be involved.

Think you acted as the perfect gentleman by accompanying your lady for a walk up the hills.  A fine night indeed for a walk!  Any self respecting gent would do the same.

4 brave Trailfairies sacrificed themselves to the midges last night (ok, a little over the top i know) and completed some resurfacing and drainage work at a rather innocuous spot near the start of Hit Squad Hill.  But come the next rain, the difference will be obvious!   I rambled on lots about how drainage channels are the 'unsung heroes' of the trails and proceeded to (over) sculpt one into the perfect U shape.  We'd hoped to get another bit further along the trail resurfaced but time was against us and the midges weren't letting up.  Thanks to Malcolm (now on holiday for 7 weeks, lucky bugger!), Alastair and Allan.

Saturday, hoping to get the section on Magic Mushroom immediately after where we were working a few weekends ago, tickled and resurfaced and shaped into a nicely cambered turn.  Hope you can make it along.

Cheers,

Andy

ooh ok then u have twisted my arm,i will come and show u guys how to slay the gt trails, lol. What route u thinking bout taking? hope there isnt too much uphill involved as i usually push them, lol. Love the Downward facing ones tho.

How did u guys get on tonight? i was hoping to make it down (hence my txt andy) but didnt get finished work till well after 7 and when i got home the missus was back from her dancing and i felt guilty just rushing off to do bike related activities and leaving her on her own in the garden on such a nice day (especially so considering im off to morzine for 9days in a months time, lol ) so i did the honourable thing and we went s walk up the pentlands,it was nice, but there was no trailfairy banter and perfectly sculpted trails so i felt a bit alien up there, lol.

nah, wouldn't be too cheeky at all ; ).  Everyone should come along if they fancy it/can make it, regardless of how often they can make it along to the fairy sessions.

no word on the wallride yet, yep, would be a great shame if it were to remain closed for much longer..

The idea of a ride and a bbq is top banana but i think it would be a bit cheeky of me to come along to that seeing as i havent managed any of the wed eve sessions this year or made any of the recent sat ones   . im gonna try make it to the Sat ones after the next one,got a stag doo on the 27th and seeing as im the best man i had better not skip it for a trailfairy sesh lol. But the one after that will top priority on my list (i know u guys are missing me and my wheelbarrow antics   ) .

Ohh did i hear you say paperwork andy??? speaking of which, whats the news on the wallride,as like u mentioned the summer is now on its downward route and the wall ride (which u made flawlessly i reckon) still remains unrideable  . would be such a shame for it to remain closed for the whole of this summer.

Hello fellow trailfairyanistas, (just made that up..)

Thanks to everyone who made it out last Wednesday eve for the fairy session and who stayed out till nearly 10pm!  It was a wee bit frantic getting the job completed, but Hit Squad Hill is now riding much better thanks to the collective efforts of the Trailfairies.  The main job was rebuilding a worn (potholed) outsloping dip in a fast compression into an insloped, super smooth, bermed piped dip.  The exit might need a little more material adding to it to better keep riders on the trail but it's a huge improvement over what was there before. Thanks again!

We've got two more Wednesday eve sessions planned - this Wed, 24th June and also Wed 8th of July (I can't make Wed 1st July).  If you can make it along that'd be great.  The 8th July session will probably be the final wed eve session of the year, as i'm away on holiday for the next two wednesdays and then we're nearly into August (and less light to play with).  So methinks a cheeky ride and BBQ (rather than dig!) might be in order for the 8th.  Would folk be up for this?

We'll also be out this Saturday, 27th June, from 9am to 1pm.  Plan is to try and complete the section we worked on, on Magic Mushroom at a recent session.

Sorry that we're having to do maintenance work at the mo', rather than finishing Zoom or Bust or starting on a new project.  I can totally understand if you're finding it a bit frustrating.  I have a bit more space this week to crack on with the paperwork required and Zoom or Bust is top of my list.

Fairy boots have been ordered and may well be here for the Saturday session. Cue hopefully not too many blisters!

cheers,

Andy

A Trailfairy publicity event on a Saturday or a Sunday would be a good thing for
raising awareness of what the Fairies do. However I'm pretty much busy every
weekend in July so I also like the idea of a ride and BBQ next Wednesday. :-)
IIRC Andy's away on his holidays pretty soon so I suspect that the 8th is
probably the only chance we have to do something like this for a wee while.

There wasnt a sesh tonight was there?im pretty sure it was cancelled? Its just aswell cos not much work would have been done in that heat,my van was showing 24deg C at 6.30pm up in the buzzards nest. It would have made the perfect night for the bbq and ride tho.

Yup, for the last of the Wednesday evening sessions for 09 we'll be forgoing toil and sweat and instead riding bikes and eating food!

We'll be meeting at the Buz Nest car park at 7pm for a ride (nothing too strenuous I might add, gentlemans pace) hopefully taking in some of the 'fairies finest bits of work.  So maybe something along the lines of up to Spooky descent, Broon Troot, Pie Run, Mushroom Pie, Magic Mushroom, Tourist Trap then back up to Buz.  Would be nice to get Zoom or Bust in too.  But anything would be good for me - been stuck in this office too much of late!

Then crank up the barbie for some food.  Would folk be ok to bring along their own food and stuff.  Malcolm, Kenneth - you ok to bring your barbie along?  Anyone not fancying riding but able to get up for the barbie and fancies helping out with some chef'in??   Not asking for much huh!

Hopefully see you Wed eve,

Hopefully the sunshine will reappear by Wed!

Since I can't currently ride my bike following saturday's incident, I'll volunteer for bbq duties.

Thanks for the lift back down on saturday, Andy.
Ended up in the BGH, but they're not sure what's damaged. There's no obvious breaks on the x-ray, no excess looseness, but the thumb joint is rough/crunching/agony when moved, so I've got a thumb splint until I get a follow up appointment, which should be sometime this week :-/

Sounds like a good route, just got to go out and get my bike working for it now   . Is there some sort of uplift to get up to spooky   i have a pretty bad back at the mo,so while i think i could put up with it on the down hill sections,i reckon the slog up to the top of spooky could be a game killer for me   unless u have the pickup andy/rich??

Hello,

Thanks everyone for an excellent fairy session on Saturday. 14 fairies dug,
sculpted, tweaked, fettled and buffed the rerouted section at the exit of the
Broon Troot we worked on at the previous session.

All this has greatly improved how it flows, to the point it could almost be
termed 'rad'. Yup, I am also totally 'stoked' with how the trail looks.

Possibly the worlds shortest video on Vimeo of Ben riding of the section, is up
at: http://vimeo.com/5551225

The next session slated for the 25th July is cancelled unfortunately (i'm on
holiday). So hopefully see you at the following session in just under a months
time on Sat 8th Aug.

Cheers!

Andy

How you doing?

Grant from MBUK is looking for between 4-6 volunteers for the Garmin/MBUK demo
day at Glentress on Sunday 26th July.

Its paid and will probably be between 9.30 and 5.30 and will involve a bit of
car parking, helping out and riding around a trail testing the new Garmin GPS
unit.

How you doing?

Grant from MBUK is looking for between 4-6 volunteers for the Garmin/MBUK demo day at Glentress on Sunday 26th July.

Its paid and will probably be between 9.30 and 5.30 and will involve a bit of car parking, helping out and riding around a trail testing the new Garmin GPS unit.

Anybody up for it, let me know?

Thanks

Rich

How you doing?

Early days but I thought I would get the house booked if your up for
party again this year, plus it means we can start collecting wood.

Has a look through the Trail building dates and the 28th November or
12th December are scheduled for some building. My thinking is the 12th
December, make it a christmas party, stick some tinsel on the mattocks
and some holly on the macleods and have a cracking time.

Alternatively barbie up at Buzzards?????

Have a think and let me know?

Cheers

Cheers Rich for offering up the house again, very kind of you.  Sat 12th Dec would work great for a party, especially being the last 'fairy session of the year and all.

Will start scratting for firewood!

I like the Christmas party idea. However I think that an additional party/BBQ on
a Saturday before the weather starts getting chilly would be nice too. I know we
had the Wednesday evening one at the time but as someone pointed out back then,
a mid-week event isn't good for everyone and for those of us who have to get up
for work during the week it tends to mean an earlier finish!

Just added some pics of the trails at Whinlatter. Thought some of you might like
to see what the competition are up to. FWIW I thought it was ok. A few design
flaws and a few bits that look like they may have been lifted from some trails
not too far from home. S'pose its flattering. Good cafe and the guys in the
shop made me a coffee even tho' they were closing up . As I bought a tyre whilst
drinking my coffee I think it may have been worth the effort. I also went to
Grizedale and re-visited the North Face trail. I really enjoyed the singletrack
there but there's far too much fire road. Whats the point in building a trail
and then not adding to it, it must have been 4 or 5 years since I was there and
it doesn't seem to have changed much. Has worn quite well tho'.

Speaking of cafe's,what on earth is going on with the building of the new one at gt? months and months have gone by and yet still no signs of a building, not even foundations? that has to be the most drawen out development i have seen! In the time it has taken them to "prep" some ground i have been on a job that has seen the building ripped down, rebuilt and fitted out inside and opens next week   and i has had its fair share of difficulties and hold ups,but yet its done!

Hello,

Got this on email from Bruce:

Volunteering survey – your chance to win HMV or iTunes vouchers!

Volunteer Development Scotland and the Scottish Government are carrying out research in order to find out how young people can be recognised for the time they give up without pay to help people or to benefit their community or wider area. This is often called volunteering.

We would be really grateful if you could complete a survey to tell us about your views on volunteering, even if you have never even considered it before. The survey should take you between 5 and 10 minutes to complete and can be accessed at the following link:

http://www.rocketsciencesurveys.co.uk/akira/TakeSurvey?id=1305143

We will enter everyone who completes the survey into a prize draw to win one of ten £15 vouchers for HMV or iTunes (you get to decide which).

Please feel free to pass on this information to other young people. The survey will close at 5pm on Friday 28th August 2009.

Thank you for your help!

Cheers,

Andy

Subject: This Saturdays session (22/08) and 'fairy boots
andytrailfairy
Send Email Send Email

Hello,

Fellow MTB Ranger and all round good cat, Andy Weir, has kindly offered to cover this Saturdays trailfairy session for me.  I'm going awol this Sat as it's my birthday.  Poor show I know!

Unfortunately the approval hasn't come through in time to get back working on Zoom or Bust for this session but fingers crossed we'll be able to work on it at the next session on Sat 5th Sep.  The aim being to get in completed, paperwork and sign off done in time to be used at the Stramash Enduro (19/20 Sep) as part of one of the timed sections.

So for this Saturdays session we'll be giving the Black Route some 'fairy loving - the plan being to do some drainage and pruning work on the final third of the Boundary Trail.  There's some muckle puddles along there which it would be very cool to sort and good to get on the Black as it gets less love than other trails at GT.  Meeting at 9am at the usual spot, near the tool shed/Ranger's Office, finishing up about 1pm.

Bruce - we'll park up on site just before the exit of the Boundary Trail (post 82), then working back up the trail as far up as post 78.  Where we park you can short cut up a walking path link to post 81 then head up the trail from there.  To get upto the parking spot, head up the 'right side' of the forest to Hit Squad Hill, along to Green Hill, keep going along this road past exit of Betty Blue then past entry to Deliverance.  It's Ok for your car.

The outstanding work boots have also arrived for those waiting on them.  Andy'll have them at the Ranger's Office for folk to try on, sign and take away.  Oh, could you remember to bring along and wear your work boots if you've already got them.

Cheers,

andy
