Dear crane friends,
I would like to inform you about the availability of recent news in my
server
www.craneworld.de
When using the further link "deutsch" or "english", you will come to an
interim News page :
http://www.craneworld.de/deutsch/news/news.html
http://www.craneworld.de/englisch/news/news.html
which leads you to most recent news "February 2005" (available in
English and German).
These news are covering the results now over 5 years of monitoring the
last wild and self-reproducible population of Whooping Cranes, the most
endangered crane species of the world. The population has achieved a
number of (today) about 215 individuals, very low for a species, but
this number is increasing in the last decades (in addition, there are
successful release projects ongoing).
We now know more than 85% of all territorial pairs. Have fun with these
new and exciting information: the application of a worldwide unique
sonographical identification technique (voiceprint) on an endangered
species in very hard to access wild and remote areas of the world.
Best regards, Bernhard
