Dear colleges and crane friends,

 

Today we have nice sunny weather with some clouds and less wind. And it’s time
to send you the best greetings and to present some crane numbers.

 

For the first days of the staging period we did not controlled all the night
roosts in the Rügen-Bockarea (54° 26’ W, 13° 22’ N, NE Germany). However,
I would like to give you some estimation:

 

At 15.08.07 we checked the main roosting sites at roost Werder /Bock with 453
cranes the island of Kirr with 175 cranes. We estimated about 800-1.000 cranes
for the whole area.

 

In the end of August more and more cranes arrived. So, at 01.09.07 we checked
the main roosting sites at roost Werder /Bock with 916 cranes the island of Kirr
with 520 cranes. We estimated about 1.800-2.000 cranes for the whole area. At
03.09.07 we counted 1.518 cranes at Großer Werder and we estimated 2.500 cranes
in total.

 

At 06.09.07 we had the first simultaneous count at 9 roosts. We counted 6.065
cranes in total (the three main roosts: Großer Werder, 3235, Kirr 1350, Udarser
Wiek, 680).

 

At 09.09.07 we counted 4.975 cranes at Großer Werder and we estimated 9.000
cranes in total for the Rügen-Bockarea.
