One Love Hackney - a Week of Peace
Small grants programme for community projects
One Love Hackney is Team Hackney's Week of Peace celebrations which take
place between 10th - 17th September 2006. Team Hackney is keen that this
year's activities are focussed around community cohesion with a
particular emphasis on engaging Hackney's young people.
Main events planned for One Love Hackney - A Week of Peace are as follows:
Sunday 10th September
* Halkevi Kurdish and Turkish Youth Festival at Ocean
Sunday 17th September
* One Love Hackney Main Event in one of Hackney's Parks with music from
a leading UK urban act and an international Kurdish & Turkish artist, a
youth talent show, and much much more - this is a family event
* Peace Walk from Hackney Town Hall to Main Event
* Hackney Mare de Gras Carnival will celebrate Peace
Small grants Grant criteria
Team Hackney is interested in supporting community-led projects which:
* Bring together young people from different cultures to celebrate
diversity and promote peace
* Provide youth diversion activities on Hackney's estates
* Celebrate youth achievement
* Reduce local people's fear of crime
* Work with Hackney's schoolchildren about Peace and Community Safety issues
* Support youth participation in the Main One Love Hackney Event on 17th
September and /or the Peace Week Walk.
The Peace Week Steering Group is open to a broad range of ideas that
could include a wide range of activities including Visual Arts /
Photography, Street Arts, Theatre, Sports & Leisure, Dance, Music,
Carnival, Cultural Heritage & Awareness, Literature and Film. We are
particularly interested in supporting innovative projects around youth
diversion or bringing Hackney's communities together.
Budget
Grants of ?50 - ?2000 are available for project activities run by
community and voluntary sector organisations based in Hackney.
Marketing your project activities
The Peace Week Steering Group plans to market One Love Hackney - a week
of Peace in the following ways:
* Community radio & commercial radio e.g. Sound Radio, Choice FM
* Events brochure
* Posters across the Borough in key community locations, libraries etc
* Flyers
This means that if your project is successful it will be promoted
widely. We expect therefore your publicity costs to be minimal.
Eligibility
Community & Voluntary Sector organisations based in, or working in
Hackney are invited to apply. Individuals may not apply for this small
grants programme. All projects working with young people under 16 will
be required to provide evidence of CRB checks and awareness of child
protection policy and procedures.
Selection
Your project application will be assessed for its:
* ability to engage with Hackney's young people
* ability to engage Hackney's diverse communities
* ability to meet the Peace Week criteria - see above
* likelihood that the project can be realised within your estimated
schedule and budget
A selection panel will be convened, comprising representatives the Peace
Week Steering Group which comprises Team Hackney, HCVS, LBH
Regeneration, Metropolitan Police Service, LBH Community Safety Team,
The Learning Trust, & Youth Offending Team. All decisions of the panel
will be final.
Service Level Agreement
We will ask successful organisations to sign a service level agreement
with HCVS. This document will set out all the terms and conditions of
the commission, but it's worth noting at this stage that any risk
assessment, applications for licenses and public liability insurance
will be the responsibility of the successful organisations.
