Hello there. I joined the main Atherton site as recent as October 3
2006, and today have come across the Hag Fold site. I am an
Athertonian who emigrated to Essex in the mid 80's, but spent quite
a lot of time in Hag Fold between 1966-1980. I used to be married
to Lyn Shawcross whose parents, Don & Connie Shawcross lived on
Devonshire Road, opposite the football fields (not far from the
bridge to Spa Road, just in the event the football fields may have
been built on). Myself and Lyn used to go to the Working Mens Club
on a Satday evening with Denis Smith and Gail Shawcross. It was
memorable as, when the "turn" was on the stage performing, all the
audience talked to each other in their own little groups, ignoring
the "turn", but as soon as it was time for bingo, you could hear a
pin drop, and every now and then SHUSHHHHHH, 'can't eart numbers'.
When you went into the tap room, Ernie Shaw would be there
overseeing everything. Does he still go in? Does anyone know the
Shawcross's, Lyn, Beverley, Gail, Lesley, Nigel, Tammy? Sorry if I
have forgotten anyone?
Best wishes with the site, cos it is fun, and the more people that
know about it, more people will enjoy themselves.
Best wishes
Stewart
