Hi Everyone

Sadly my Dad, Douggie Appleton died on Sunday 20 July 2008 aged 88
years.

I thought those who may have known Mum and Dad on the Hag Fold estate
would maybe see this message as it is the only way of possibly letting
you know. Years ago they were regular visitors to the Hag Fold Working
Mens Club.

There is an obituary in this week's Leigh Journal but if you are like
Mum, she rarely receives a copy through her letterbox!!

Funeral arrangements are by Abbey Funeral, Mealhouse Lane, Atherton if
anyone wishes to know any more details.

Thanks
Elaine (daughter)

Hi All
After returning from holiday I found that from different sectors of my life I had 395 E-Mails and with 3 phone lines many phone calls to Answer.
Moving on from that I do read all E-Mails. (Sorry jumbo if I have pick on yours and Dave's Email to respond to).
But I just thought all though I was not able to comment at the time feel now may be that Time.

This subject was brought to the attention of The Atherton Residents Association. At the committee meeting before this event.( Re The Park)
And we all felt that Action was required what could be done. Only by involving the police would we get any action to stop this happening. (Sue whilst in the meeting phoned and got the ball rolling as to say and keep in contact with all the sergeants, pcso's).

I must state that this is what the residents association was set up to serve the community in any way. (in what ever way)  it maybe sorting out problems or just bringing the community together for the common good of all the people of Atherton.
Sometimes there's not always a quick fix. This time it all seemed to work with the co-operation of all. THANK'S to everyone.

Now on a sad note I have to inform everyone that we had asked for funding from the co-op to fund a ARA, Police event this coming summer to give some children the chance to do a activity in Atherton (IE Go - Carting) this application has been turned down by the Co-op on this occasion. This was few hundred pounds to fund this event.
May be we can raise this by some other way, time is short. If any one would like to donate any monies then please send to myself at the address below.
Remember when we want their help they responded, let's see if we can help the Pcso's, to help us keep our children of our town busy this Summer.
THANKS
And thank you in anticipation of any reply to this appeal.

Yours sincerely

Subject: [atherton] THANKS!

A special thanks to the two PCSO'S who spent all last evening keeping
the kids under control in Atherton Park, they did a great job. There
was even some police there at some point. The evening was alot calmer
and the pcsos worked their socks off.
I just glad other people can see what we have had to put up with.
Just imagine what its like when the kids arent supervised and left to
do whatever they want.
The good work will without a doubt prevent some of the easily led kids
getting the wrong idea of how to enjoy themselves. Thanks again you
earned your wage last night.

Dave's Reply to jimbo E-Mail.
Jimbo,

That's great. I second that vote of thanks too. Well done to the PCSOs
and other bobbies.
I know some are members on here like Mike Burgess and it's fantastic
to have some good news.
There's still hope.
Perhaps that money allocated to education to Wigan Met could be used
to provide facilities for these kids who need channelling in a better
direction.
Thanks for letting us know Jimbo. Regards to you and yours.

Hi All
Meeting Today Hesketh Fletcher 8am for 8.30. To 10.30am.

I would just like to say it was a very positive and constructive meeting.
Andy confirmed the fact as there have been many rumors about the school and closer.
Andy confirmed that these were all untrue.
All the points from today will be look at.
The great thing was the involvement off someone from all groups and more so the Schools Children.
The feeling I had was one of that this School, is the School of ATHERTON and we should all support them by what ever means we can.
Just a few line to let people know that the meeting took place and it went well.
Well done to all, great attendance.

Please note I will not be able to attend the next committee meeting as I only finish work 3pm however I will try to call at 3.30pm just in case . Next meeting 19th May 2008 2pm Hesketh Manor.

Hi All
This is a standard agenda and all meetings will follow this format and then people will get used to it.

We will  also limit the meeting to a specific time I.e. 1hour 30 minutes.
giving a meeting a time limit gives people the knowledge that the meeting will fit in to their busy time schedule but also make sure that the meeting does not go off at tangents ...

We will also ask people to notify the Secertary & (vice) or Chairman of any other business so that they can decide if it is urgent or can wait until the next meeting.

I think this is a must from now on in let's run with it.
Suck it and see.

This also can be used for General meetings (However i have slightley ajusted).
as the next meeting is only a fee weeks away.

Please respect the confidentiality of this Committee, Guest information Especially telephone numbers

Thanks for that Elaine. It was David Belloti who brought the fruit and the card and asked us to sign the card as it would cheer him up, which we were more than willing to do. I will pass your thanks on to the other members of the group on Wednesday. If we can do anything else to cheer your dad up I am sure we can come up with something.

Monday and his neighbour, David, visited him with a huge basket of
fruit and a card signed from members of the Hag Fold Men's Club (Dorset

Can I please say a huge Thank You to all those who signed the card and
sent their best wishes. Mum and Dad were really touched by such
kindness.

Thanks

Is it true that this club is to close?

I watched the club being built all those years ago. Seems yet another

Is it true that this club is to close?

I watched the club being built all those years ago. Seems yet another
of my childhood memories is disappearing!

If anyone is interesred in joining the mens group on their allottment
please let me know. It could prove to be a laugh if nothing else. The
worst that could happen is that we may actually grow something edible.
All are welcome.

Hi

I remember the Shawcross family as they used to live near me on
Devonshire Road. We have spent many a happy hour in the Working
Men's Club. You are right, the bingo got the best reception of the
night and woe betide anyone who made a noise. The possessive nature
of where everyone st used to amuse me. Each one on their own table.
Mum, Dad and brother Bob went in for years after I left home.
