I not hundred percent sure but I think you are talking about a 2.5 inch gauge
sentinel loco by j.h.rodges.
It used a flash boiler with bi.metal strip to control the fire damper thus
controlig pressure.It ran at 80 psi and had a single double acting cyclinder
with beveled gears running to the wheels.
It was described by l.b.s.c in model engineer if I am on the right track e-mail
me back and I will give more detail of the loco and what volumes you will find
it described in.

On the cover of ME 2077, Feb 27 1941, there is a photo of a Sentinel
loco. It is described as "The old Sentinel described in ME some years
ago. The steam generator has no flue tubes, so house coal is used,
hence the white smoke"

Anybody know anything about the design? or which ME is refered to?
I have searched the electronic index provided by the 5" association,
when I used the Access index I had nil returns, but using the comma
seperated values I did have a few hits, but nothing that seemed
likely.

PS The ugly duckling could be made to look like this loco.
