Hi Rich,
That would be one definition. There are some other aspects. In G3 we
build standard gauge engines (these days to 17/32nd scale) to run on
21/2" track. Some of our members collect vintage engines by BL &
Carson that will be to 1/2" scale. Our get-togethers are largely
live steam in nature - and pulling scale rolling stock rather than
(non-scale) people. Many G3 Members are also 21/2" enthusiasts - and
there is a lot of "cross-over". However Association members tend
towards the MES side of life and are not so worried about "scale"
just "gauge". So they have some very nice New Zealand NG engines
plans (& castings) for instance that build into a larger than G3
engine - ideal for driver haulage.
The Assoc have a large range of 21/2" castings for most of the
common designs (LBCS etc) but there are other sources - such as Alan
Headeach of the G3 Society. The G3 website is being rebuilt but will
return shortly (www.gauge3.co.uk)
One further point - Trevor Goodman is not the G3 Membership Sec - I
am. Trevor has led a blameless life, whilst I obviously have not....
Regards,
Ian Turner
"Would it be broadly correct in saying that the gauge 3 society
deals with 2.5" gauge builders who intend their charges to run on
senic tracks, but the 2.5" gauge association deals with loco's of a
more passenger hauling nature? Is that the distinction?"
