I wouldn't recommend a bunsen burner as such, but Bruce Engineering
(www.PollyModelEngineering.co.uk) do a good range of ceramic burners,
plumbing and tanks which ought to be suitable. They're pretty good with
advice.
I'd be interested how you get on, as I'd like to do something similar in the
future.

Not sure about gas/coal convertable though, as this would probably be a
significant job to remove the pipework/burner so the ashpan could be used.
