Here is a link to the details about Southern Maid:-
http://www.users.waitrose.com/~n25ga/Locos/smaid.htm
My interest is due to being being give a part built model, the only
salvageable parts being the wheels and cylinders.
I then obtained the write up and plans, which state it is 'suitable
for beginners'. Judging by the frames I was given, perhaphs not!
I suggest laser/waterjet cut frames without gunmetal horns, laser cut
coupling and connecting rods. Simple 5/8" square stretchers bolted to
the inside of the angle iron buffer beams (saving messing around with
angle iron which is hard to attach squarely). Laser cut plate work
and cabs spring to mind. Anything really to reduce the amount of work
required.
So I hope to start one, can anybody else indicate if they have an
interest in building such a model. This will give some idea of cost
involved if we are shopping to have small batches outsourced, say to
have buffers made. Or a batch of boiler plates etc.
