I am in the process of converting the Dyak drawings to autocad
format at the request of Gerald Chandler and, not having built the
engine, am concerned with a couple of discrepancies which appear to
exist. I would be grateful if anyone who has built Dyak in metal
rather than just on paper as I has found the same issues:
1. The position of the hole for the cylinder exhaust results in a
very slight inclinaton of the cylinders and valve gear.
repositioning the hole down a fraction would make the arrangement
all square.
2. Even allowing for the 1/32" fibre gasket between the cylinder
and frame, there is an interference of 1/64" between crosshead and
coupling rod.
3. With the axleboxes at the top of the hornblocks, the coupling
rods hit the weighshaft. The latter would have to be raised by
5/64" to avoid this.
The radius of the front of the cab (4 5/8") is too big and results
in insufficient space to fit the turret.
I have been working from the original articles and wonder whether
any of these issues have been addressed in the full size drawings.
