Hello David,
I am new to this list, but I posted some photos of a Bassett - Lowke Gauge
3 model of an NER 4-4-0 that I bought as a box of disconnected pieces and
bits. With the help of Des Adeley, we now know that this loco was built by
James Carson for Bassett - Lowke, prior to B-L taking over the manufacture
of this model. The flash steam generating coil is long gone, and I am
leaning towards replacing it with a water tube boiler. I am torn, as I would
prefer to return the loco to a more authentic state, but I also wish to run
the engine. From all I have heard, the flash steam generator doesn't have
enough reserve to handle varying loads.
Aside from Mr. Adeley, I have received invaluable assistance from my friend
Bob Thomas in Pennsylvania. Appropriate fasteners and taps and dies from Bob
have allowed me to make real progress since the pictures were taken.
