spirits of salts
commonly known these days as hydrochloric acid h c 1 that's what we make our
pickle baths out of and us builders use it for cleaning masonry heavily
diluted,,,after the brickies had finished it would remove splashes of cement
and generally clean up the bricks ,,, it also plays havoc with stainless steel

I recall LBSC mentioning Spirits of salts. I saw some in a hardware
shop next to caustic soda and washing soda. I thought it was some long
forgotten term like 'german silver'. What was it used for?
