Welcome - I am tickled with my hammies - they are addictive so be careful- what kind of cage did you get? Do you have a picture? She sounds like she was not a happy camper- leave her be for awhile and see what happens- talk to her - they do respond to your voice- my newest one ( yet unnamed) for the first few days never slept but she settled into the sleep all day run all night routine quite nicely- it will take her awhile to find the whole cage - I had a critter trail till I switched to tanks - and my first hammie named Betty who I just realized is a BOY - oh well- we call her Betty Bob - anyways there was this wonderful high tube to climb with an awesome look out but she went up it once and never went in it again - looked like fun to me - keep us posted and have fun Linda
Hi, I'm new here. I just got my hamster, Tribble. Due to my inexperience I am open to all suggestions and advice. I just think she is the cutest creature! I am upset with the pet shop because they sold me a cage that is almost impossible to put together, so a friend of mine and I were up until 4:30 last night trying to get it all to hold together. We took a few hours of zzz's and back at it. Finally I had to take it back to have one of the staff to build it. I'm angry because Tribble got really needlessly stressed. I had to keep her in those balls that they can run around in (with a little blankie). She bit me with those wicked fangs of hers and wow, I had blood everywhere. Poor hammie. She's eaten and had water but she's been sleeping all day and all night. I'm a bit worried about her. I was told not to handle her for a week. She was incredibly friendly in the pet shop so I know she is stressed to the max now. I covered her play room with a
cotton cloth to keep it nice and dark. Now she doesn't go in the main cage. Perhaps when I leave the room and go to bed she'll venture out to eat and drink. I am so happy to have her! I'm reading about hamsters so I can give her a nice life being cuddled and watched.
