Calling deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people who live in Oxfordshire,
Oxfordshire Theatre Company (OTC) is having a captioned performance at
Cornerstone Art Centre at Didcot, OX11 7NE on Friday 10th July at 1.30pm of
Dancing in my Dreams for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people. OTC is part
of See a Voice project which is supported by STAGETEXT to increase number of
captioned performances around England. We are giving away 4 free tickets to see
the show as stated above. We would like deaf, deafened and hard of hearing
people to go and see the show, especially if they have never seen it before.
Hearing companions are welcome too.
If you are interested to see the show or know someone who would like to try out,
please feel free to contact me. My contact details are at the bottom of this
email. Can you get back to me as soon as possible thanks before this Wednesday
8th July.
Captions are very similar to TV subtitles, but include additional information
such as indicating speaker names, sound effects and offstage noises. The actors'
words appear on an LED display unit (or units), placed next to the stage or in
the set, at the same time as they are spoken or sung. A trained captioner
prepares the script in advance, then operates the captions as the actions
unfolds on stage.
Captions are particularly helpful for
* People whose hearing is not as sharp as it used to be
* Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people who want to access plays in
English
* Anyone who has difficulty following strong accents
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me or Fran.
Best wishes,
Deepa Shastri
