Pinner Fair

Long time, no hear...Hellooo, is there anyone
still out there?
Anyway, I have been told you have a
bank holiday on Monday over there, in the UK. I was
trying to think what it was for and the only thing I
could think of,would be Whitsun. Is that right? So,
whitsun got me thinking and I seem to recall that Pinner
Fair used to be on the Wednesday of Whitsun week. I'm
interested to know if the fair still comes every year.
Growing up, it was always a huge deal to me and then as a
teen...an even bigger one because we would hang out at the
pub (I forget the name...was it the George?)right in
the middle of the High street. I remember this pub
and the fair, would be a place to get together and
bump into people you hadn't seen for ages. Whereas
normally people kept to their own "turf" (ie: the north
harrow boys drank at the headstone: the Wealdstone lot
at the Case etc.) the fair would bring all the
different groups together and while there was usually some
fight or disagreement during the evening, it was a real
coming together of people.
Maybe, I'm romanticising,
due to the fact that I'm really homesick these days,
but I do have very fond memories of that one day of
the year.
