Hi all,
We will be meeting at the church in Hayes, Middlesex this Thursday to
socialise, have fun, and make stuff!
This time we are looking at Diwalli, with colourful Rangoli pictures to
make, information about the story, and possibly Indian sweets too
(depending on how organised I can get ;)
I have also found some fun experiments with lights - portable rainbows,
home made magnifying glasses that can act as cameras and others. I
thought they would fit well with the festival of lights!
If anyone who is coming celebrates Diwalli and wants to add some more
personal knowledge please get in touch with me as we'd love to hear how
our friends celebrate.
We try to have a vague theme for each session, with information about
the theme (ie if it's a religious celebration details and stories etc),
food if it's appropriate, games and crafts either based on the theme or
traditionally associated with the theme. Quite often though the kids
aren't really interested - and that's fine by us because basically the
group is there to provide a safe and welcoming place to play and make /
meet friends, the 'education' part of home education is done either at
home or with family. The activities are there for a bit of structure if
we / the
children need that, but we don't want them to get in the way of the fun!
The address is :
Hayes Elim Christian Centre
7 Keith road
Hayes
Middlesex
UB3 4HW
If it's your first visit, or you would like more information about us,
directions etc please feel free to get in touch. All are welcome, though
the current focus of the group is 10 and under (dictated by most of our
regular attendees being under 10, though we have a growing number of
slightly older kids now too!).
We meet from 10:30 until about 1:30 - 2 pm, and most families have lunch
at some point during the session. We have access to the kitchen and a
plentiful supply of tea, coffee, juice and biscuits.
Due to hall charges and cost of craft bits, we have a subscription
scheme - £20 for the next period - from the start of September to the
end of November (it's a 3 month period) or £5 for irregular attendees if
that is preferable.
We have a wide variety of toys, including (but not limited to) :
Climbing frame
Slide
Lego
Duplo
Boxed and card games
Craft table
cars and road mat
dressing up clothes
play food and kitchens
Table football
The next few sessions that we have vague plans for are :
08/11/07 Diwalli
22/11/07 ??
06/12/07 Christmas decorations
20/12/07 Eid / Christmas / end of year party and games
03/01/08 Burns night
See you all soon!
