I expect you are aware of the proposed changes to the law for home educators. You probably know that these came forward in the Queen's Speech yesterday. Under the new law that may be passed:
We would have to re-register yearly to have the right to educate our children at home
Local Education Authorities would have the right to interview our children without us being present
Although the government may have reasons for these changes in the law, they represent a shift in power away from families to the state. We believe that, with all their imperfections, families are far better at looking after the educational interests of children than the state.
If you agree, please could you try and sign the petition that is being organised to oppose these changes in the law. You will need to sign the correct one for your parliamentary constituency. You can find out how to do this here:
I have contacted www.mathletics.co.uk -- an online math site used by some of the top independent schools in the UK about joining their site and found out that if it is possible to join as a school the price is significantly reduced from £39 to £6 per year.
They are happy for a group of homeschoolers to join as a school. To be a school, a minimum of 10 students are needed and all grades are covered on the site from reception to year 12.
So ... if you are interested in joining -- I'm looking for a minimum of 10 students.
If you are interested please send me an email by 20 NOVEMBER 2009 with number of students you wish to sign up and their ages/school years. Please put "Mathletics" in the subject line.
I'll be posting this on the southbucks and westlondon yahoo groups, if you have any friends that are interested please pass this email on -- the more "students" the cheaper it will be!
If you have any other questoins please let me know!
Hi everyone
The Northolt Group will meet from 12 - 3 this Thursday at the Scout Hall in
Laughton road.
We are going to do some junk modelling this week. I have a big bag of cardboard
boxes / tubes of various sizes but if you have any more please bring them along.
We'll also have some colouring and the usual assortment of games and toys.
Hope to see you all there!
Julie
We won't be able to make this week either as we have been invited to a Halloween picnic tomorrow lunchtime! See you all in a fortnight.

Apologies for the late notice but this week the meeting will be at Lime Trees Park rather than at the scout hut.
Julie Fisher is away this week so we have the key but we are all sick today. We may well be OK by tomorrow but I thought it would be better to designate the park as the meeting place so that it won't matter whether we can come or not. Sorry about this. Anyone who has paid in advance we will roll the payment over to the next week.
We will not be able to make it this week. George is doing a holiday club from 10-12 each day. I did not realise how tired he would get so we not be going.

There seems to be a very nasty tummy bug doing the rounds - hope you all
get better soon! We've all been sick, Darrell and Mark are currently in
the final stages of it now :( not sure if we'll make it or not - will
depend on how long it all lasts!
Hope everyone else out there is ok,

As most of you are aware, we are moving to Scotland this weekend (Oct 18/19).
I just wanted to take this opportunity to say goodbye to everyone and best wishes with your home education journeys.
We have really enjoyed being a part of the home-ed community here in Hillingdon and have met some wonderful people as a result. We will look back on our time in Hayes with fond memories because of your friendships.
If anyone wishes to remain in touch, would like our new address etc in Scotland, please feel free to email me at: uppenborn @ gmail.com
Also, if anyone has any home-ed contacts or resources in Scotland that they think would be useful to us, please do let us know.
God bless you all!!

Theme: A Day at the V&A Find out more about how people used to live. Start with looking at one of the magnificent beds in the British galleries, then on to how people used to wash, what they used to wear and what they used to eat.
I've just created a yahoo group online to enable folks to give away/sell/buy/exchange curriculum, educational books and educational goods.
It is open to all home educators, regardless of how you educate, and open worldwide, hopefully to enable the use of educational goodies which may not be as easily accessible in the UK (it's UK based).
Please feel free to join in, it's only just been setup....membership has to be approved and there's a files section for you to add any educational wishlists and for sale/exchange/free list in, which you're also welcome to post through the group. I've posted one already of things I have to give away, as an example on how to post.
Hi everyone
Hope you are all well.
We will be meeting at the usual time and place this Thursday 1st October - in
the scout hut on Laughton Road from midday to 3pm.
Natasha will be coming again to do games and we will have a Harvest Festival
theme for the craft activity.
The following week (15th October) we are planning the Animal Encounters sesion
which I think will be really interesting.
Hope to see you all on Thursday.

Hello all
Just to confirm that we are meeting at the usual time and place this Thursday -
in the scout hut on Laughton Road from midday to 3pm.
I won't be there this week as I have to work so James will bring Adam. Julie F
will be there as usual.
Julie and I have been condidering making one of the sessions in October and
Animal Encounter session where a lady would come in with a selection of animals
which she would talk about and the children could handle - things like a corn
snake, a rabbits, a bearded dragon, tortoise, giant land snail... Please can you
let Julie know if you think this would be something your child(ren) would enjoy.
See you all in a couple of weeks time.

Subject: Homeschool Event: TATE MODERN 18 NOV 2009
Hello!
I have organized another homeschool outing to the Tate Modern on 18 November 2009 from 13:00-14:30.
Ages: 5-7(-ish!)
Maximum: 16 spaces
This will be a "Tate Led" session with the theme of Process.
From the Tate Modern website:
Workshops take place in the galleries, on the concourses and in the Turbine Hall. The workshops are organised into four themes: Space, Temporary Practices, Process and Ideas. Group leaders and teachers are required to state their selected theme on booking their workshop. Designed and delivered by a practising artist, the content of each workshop will vary according to their particular approach, ideas and practice. However each workshop will involve encountering art works, looking, questioning and formulating responses.
The maximum number for this event is 16. I have told them that there may be younger siblings attending -- there didn't seem to be a problem, but these have to be in the head count.
Please let me know if you want to attend and the age(s) of your children.
I discussed today at Hayes group, I have organised a shelter building session at Ruislip Lido.
Date: Wed 16th September
Place: Ruislip Lido meet at field by the carpark entrance
Time 10am-12pm
Cost: Free
Age: 5-10 years old.
After we all meet with Richard who will be leading the session he will lead us to to the woods above the car park. He has mentioned that this is not suitable for buggys so if you have slings etc. you may find that better. Please be aware that this session will be taking place in the middle of a wood where there are no paths, benches etc.
There is atotal number of 30 places includuing adults and siblings. So please let me now as soon as possible if you are interested
Hello everyone and apologies that this is later in the week than usual...
I just wanted to confirm that we are meeting, as usual, at the scout hall this
week and Natasha or Aaruhn *will* definitely be there this week for games with
the children! Outdoors if the weather is good enough or indoors if it isn't.
Hope to see you there,
Julie
Hi all,
We are planning an outing to Cassiobury Park in Watford on Tuesday
morning and wondered if anyone else was around (I know several people
are away already).....
We have no particular plans for the day at all but a cycle and perhaps
a paddle if the weather permits, a ride on the train, a play in the
playgrounds, and a picnic/lunch in the cafe if it's too cold! I'm
guessing we'll be in the car park about 10.30 - so if you are
interested please let us know and we'll wait for you?
Weather cover will be Parents Paradise softplay, but we won't be
staying there quite so long!!

We run a small gym / athletics group (ages range from 5 –
12 years) at BrunelUniversity, Uxbridge from
10am – 11am on Mondays. For the month of September (starting 7th)
whilst the weather is nice (we live in hope!) athletics will take place outside
at the Brunel Sports Ground. From October onwards the group will move indoors
to Brunel’s Sports Hall for gymnastics.
The cost is £4.50 per child per session with a reduced rate
of £3.50 for siblings. This is payable per month in advance.
If you are interested in joining us or want to find out more,
please either email me direct (Julie@...)
or phone me on 07976 805977.
APOLOGIES EVERYONE...
I was looking at the wrong week on my schedule when I sent out the e-mail about
what will be happening this week.
Natasha and Aaruhn are NOT actually booked for this week at all - it is the next
session that they are coming, on 3rd September.
I am VERY sorry - please apologise to any children who were looking forward to
it and will be disappointed.

just remind your children so that they all know and so we are sure that it's not
us causing a problem.
