I would like to know if anyone has home educated whilst living in
France which I would like to do in September 2008. I am a single
parent and my mum lives just outside Nice. My 12 year old son and I
have decided that we would like to try this for at least a year. He
has not really settled at secondary school and has found it difficult
to make friends. He has low self-esteem and the children at the
shcool have been consistently mean to him and have goaded him for no
reason. He recently returned to school after spending a wonderful
time hiking in the Alpes Maritimes with my mum and me in beautiful
weather only to return to school for two days of destructive comments
about his new hair cut being 'gay' and the marks from his sun
glasses - essential at altitude- indicating that he had been using a
sun bed!!! These are just two examples and I could honestly fill an
entire book and he has only been there since September 2007! When I
approached the school they simply said that the way he had responded
to these comments was unacceptable - no mention of the fact that he
was upset! He has been recognised as a brilliant actor and performer
and the school informed me last year that he is gifted and talented.
I just want him to be happy! I understand that he needs to meet other
children and deal with all sorts of people from all walks of life but
I can't bear to see him so miserable. I would love to have your
