I am Katy I home educate our DS 10 with Aspergers syndrome and DD7.
Sorry we don't live near you BUT,
Any time you want to I can share about home edcuating a child with ASD.
Our son hated school and loves home ed his statemant of speacial needs has been maintatined.
We do more formal things like Maths etc in mornings mostly and get out and about around the childrens interest as much as possible.
I do not know your son but if it helps let me share how it went for our son:
Do you use visual time tabling if so you may want to continue with it and perhapsuse and egg timer to let your son know when an activity needs to end or another needs to start.
OK now lets talk about social skills....school made my son worse more relcutant to vernture out into the world.
But now he is a different boy...I have to insist and agree we will go out to new places and discuss benefits show him
pictures but the more time goes on the happier he is to go.He can deal with shop assistants himself now,he helps others when out at home education socail groups and he loves the social play get togethers the best.
I can take him to swimming pools parks Museums when it is quieter but we have yet to go out where he doesn't manage socailly at all .
All our frinds who were very anti now sing their approval on the basis of his socail progress alone,we have not had a melt down since we started.
Our son can use his trampoline as oftenas he likes I CAN EXPLAIN THINGS IN A WAY THAT HE UNDERSTANDS.
He can do most of his work on the PC which he loves ,he is beeter and better at board games and family time just because he is so much less stressed.
His self esteem grows daily.
He can't wait to meet up with friends he chose not a buinch of people he is compelled to be near to.
All the experts told us it would be bad but it has only been
good.
we have challenging days where he wants everything to his agenda, but the flexibility of home education is I can adapt to meet his needs as appropriate.
Having a younger sister home educated too eggs him on too!

I am seriously considering HE, in fact I am 99% sure that we are going
to go for it, but I would really like to contact some people in the
King's Lynn area of Norfolk to find out what's going on in my area.

have got 3 children: 3 and a half, 5 and 7. The eldest has got
Aspergers Syndrome, and he is the reason that we are embarking on this,
as he is almost school phobic. It is a daily fight to drag him to
school, and it is his dream to be home educated. The problem I have is
that because he does not socialise well or mix with others, and hates
unfamiliar situations, I am worried that by taking him out of his only
social environment I am going to worsen his problem. Can anyone help
me with this? Locally or otherwise? Thanks!
