Hi Talena. Go for it! You will find lots of support and advice here.
Suggest you also join AEUK@yahoogroups.com, which stands for autonomous
(ie child led) home education. Home educators are a friendly bunch and
will answer any questions you may have however silly they may seem to
you! There are bound to be lots of people who live in your area who
organise trips and outings (sorry I am in Hampshire so can't help)!
