Re: [Honda Deauville] Handling of my DV

Hello John.
Thanks for this tip.  I suspected that this was a contibuting factor to my
problem, and today I tried out not dropping to 1st everytime I hit very low
speeds. I had better handling in bends as a result.
Must get out more now and master my handling technice.  Any further tips would
be handy. By the way, do you hail from the Milton Keynes area.

Graham.

Graham,

I suspect that you are possibly in first gear at this point? Always use 2nd when
moving no matter how slowly. It will be much smoother and will pull away
cleanly, there is not normally any need to slip the clutch either whilst moving.
It will also lessen the possibility of wheel spin in poor conditions.

Firstly may I say a big thanks to those who answered my query about the
difference between new and old etc.

Secondly, I am now the proud owner of a 1999 DV with just 30k on the
clock. I picked it up today and am very pleased with it, however I have
one problem that is obviously a rider induced fault, and that is at low
speed (cornering, traffic, roundabouts etc), I throttle off and the
engine shuts down very quickly which can cause me to wobble and will be
uncomfortable for a pillion passenger, plus it could throw me off in
the wet. I counteract it by slipping the clutch and get a much smoother
ride...... What am I doing wrong please......
Graham.

I suggest "playing" with idle speed to get best balance as my old DV was the same until i did this. Enjoy! Regards Mike On 14/02/2009,...

You could also try to raise the mixture a bit. 1/2 turn more out should do the trick, to make it a bit more rideable and even at low RPMs. The idle-screw (one...
