Hi folks,
I'm going to give some pronunciation workshops to a group of improv actors
("Whose line is it
anyway?" kind of thing). The focus is going to be on varying various
articulatory parameters
thus improving voice control and allowing better accent control (rather than
just using a set
of dialect catchphrases). However, I need to demonstrate the direct relevance of
varying the
parameters in facilitating the production of specific accents. I've seen them
perform a
number of times so some areas are quite straightforward. e.g. the Geordie
accents they do
always sound angry, so one focus is learning to place stress using intensity
rather than pitch.
I know some accent 'tricks' such as the retroflex tongue position to sound
Welsh.
So, from your knowledge of phonetics, your own accent, or working backwards from
the
accents of people you teach, does anyone have any good tips, tricks or accent
info to help
me out?
Cheers!
Alex.
