FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS

We are happy to announce that the Sixth International Symposium on the
Acquisition of Second Language Speech New Sounds 2010 will take place
on 1-3 May 2010 in Poznan, Poland. The Symposium will be organised by
the School of English, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan.

Following the unanimous decision taken by the participants of the
New Sounds 2007 conference held in Florianópolis, Brazil, we intend
to continue the tradition of the symposiums on the acquisition of
foreign language speech, organized originally by Allan James and
Jonathan Leather, at regular 3-year intervals.

The conference will cover a variety of themes related to the acquisition
of a foreign language phonology, including among others:

- speech perception and speech production
- theories of acquisition of L2 phonology
- phonetics and phonology in SLA
- acquisition of second language phonotactics
- multilingualism and the acquisition of third language phonology
- the application of new technologies
- neuro- and psycholinguistic aspects of phonological acquisition.


SUBMISSIONS

Proposals of papers and posters related to the acquisition of second
language speech are invited. The deadline for abstract submission is
1st December 2009. Abstracts should not exceed 500 words (excluding
references) and will be reviewed anonymously. Detailed abstract submission
guidelines
will be available on our website shortly.

Full papers are expected to be submitted prior to the conference by
15th March 2010 (the required style sheet will be available online in
due course). Each paper will be assigned a 30-minute slot, including
10 minutes for discussion. The language of the conference is English.
The conference proceedings will be edited on a CD and included in the
conference package. Selected papers will be published later as an edited
collection in a volume issued by Peter Lang.

Student fee: 80 Euro
Late registration (after 15 March 2010)
Regular fee: 200 Euro
Student fee: 100 Euro

The conference fee will cover the conference package with
CD proceedings, coffee/tea and snacks during conference breaks,
the conference reception and banquet, and an organised
sight-seeing tour of Poznan.


THE VENUE:

The conference will be held in the newly renovated Collegium Maius
of Adam Mickiewicz University (http://amu.edu.pl/), which is located
in the centre of Poznan.

Poznan is a city in west-central Poland with over 600 000 inhabitants.
Poznan is Poland's fifth largest city and fourth biggest industrial
centre. Located on the Warta river, it is one of the oldest historical
cities in Poland and a vibrant centre of trade, industry, and education.
Pozna 's cathedral is the oldest in the country, containing the tombs
of the first Polish rulers. Poznan was the host city for the UN Climate
Change Conference that took place in December 2008. It boasts the title
of the "city of know-how".

Academic Poznan hosts over 150 thousand students at its institutions
of higher education, 55 thousand at Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU).
AMU is one of the 3 largest, oldest and most prestigious universities in
Poland.
