Hi everyone,
I joined the group after JALT 2008, but it's taken me this long to post
something because I couldn't figure out how to change my sn...until now.
Quick introduction: I'm a senior lecturer at Kanda Univ of Intl Stud in
Makuhari, Chiba, Japan. I've been interested in phonology since college/grad
school, which has led me to become one of the go-to people for pronunciation at
my school, although I'm a bit rusty now. I've taught the pronunciation language
lab and am currently trying to set up a sustainable framework for the lab that
will hold even after I'm gone. (Our school has a four-year contract system.)
I've also worked on incorporating pronunciation tasks into our Basic Reading
curriculum, which was the topic of my JALT presentation last year.
My main question: I'm in the fourth year of my contract, and I'm looking into
going back to grad school -- a PhD in Second Language Phonology. Do you all have
any suggestions for good programs? At the moment, my shortlist includes:
Northwestern Univ, Univ of Arizona, Univ of Illinois - Urbana Champaign,
UMass-Amherst, Iowa Univ, UCLA, and Simon Fraser. Am I on the right track?
Any advice would be really helpful!
