Hi there,
I've been doing some transcriptions of classes recently, and one thing that has
struck me has
been just how strange teacher language is in terms of the mix of quotes, reading
out
passages/instructions etc, and statements such as "We have to use have to when
we want to
talk about...", plus interpersonal comments, instructions, talking to yourself
etc. Does
anyone know of any research into how teachers use prosody to mark whether
something is a
quote, or display, or reference to grammar etc.? and whether students really
pick up on this?
Alex.
