Um a question for people up on ICT for pron!
In her book from 2002 on Discourse Intonation, Chun says that since speech
analysis
software can't show smooth pitch contours when there are unvoiced sounds, it's
best at
beginner levels to use sentences that have only voiced sounds. That seems very
limiting.
Now, software advances very rapidly. I use Praat and Wavesurfer, neither of
which fill in the
gaps (cos they're not aimed at ELT). When we hear speech we hear pitch as
continuous, but
visualization software shows it as broken up. Is there any teaching software
which has
overcome this difficulty?
(And does anyone have any links for trying it out?)

Alex.
