Hello all,
First things firth, I applaud the offort that has gone into this game,
and am extremely happy with it. I have been playing 40k (tabletop)
since I saw the first silly model for a "Space Ork" come out in White
Dwarf #87 or so. I have played WHFRP as well (have a ripped cover 1st
ed. from when I was a kiddo) and have read ever 40k novel that has
been published to date. So, I can say with some degree of certainty
that you have held true and accurate to the world and flavor of 40k,
bravo!
Now, my question:
In reading through the Combat Section, I noticed there were no
explicit rules for to hit modifiers for being in cover. Was this
intentional, or just forgotten/left out?
What are the rules for shooting at someone in cover?
I couldn't find them if they are included (if they are, my apologies,
I must have missed them). However, if they are not, then may I
suggest you do something like simply make it a To Hit Modifier based
on how much of the target is exposed/hiddden. Perhaps generalize it a
little bit, making it abstract such as "Partial Cover", "Moderate
Cover", and "Extreme Cover" or some such, assigning each increasingly
higher to hit penalties for the shooter.
Alternately you do what the tabletop game does, and make it an armor
value for being in cover based on what you are hiding behind or
something (Light Cover, Medium Cover, Hard Cover, etc).
And of course you could combine the two, but I think this would be too
complex, so I myself am leaning towards my first suggestion. Simply
use a to hit modifier for the shooter and be done with it. Less die
rolling, smoother fast-action game play. Just need some good examples
and guidelines for what the general cover modifiers should look like
is all.
Tell me what you think. FWIW I am planning on running an Imperium
Game in the near future, so I will probably impliment one of these in
my game (modern warfar requires a LOT of ducking behind conver if you
want to survive longer than 30 seconds in a firefight!). Ill tell you
how it works out for me.
