Oddly enough, I'm running a "Airmobile" Imperial Guard
campaign over at RPG.net, and they've just gotten in
their Valkyrie.
I'd make a few, limited changes:
1. Weaponry: Start multilaser. Just from an equipment
perspective, it makes more sense to have the default
be a multi-laser and the lascannon be an upgrade.
2. Capacity: I'm pretty sure it's 10. I can't actually
find a rules quote to back this up (despite staring at
my copy of Imperial Armor), but IIRC, a UK White Dwarf
had a battle report involving a Valkyrie and it
unloaded 10 troops. Also, this seems to be standard
Imperial transport size.
From a practical standpoint, I decided to do this. A
"full" company of Imperial Guard is 6 infantry
platoons, each with 5 squads. That's a full 30 squads
of guardsmen. Not including sundry command squads,
specialists and the like. That's *alot* of Valkyries
to have anything approaching company-level operations,
let alone regimental movements. Cut that in half and
you need 60 Valkyries. One wonders why you'd even
bother bringing the guardsmen at that point...
