Hello, I am looking for another Jaguar in the near future. I have
previously owned a series 3 xj6, a 1981/1983 XJS V12, and a xj40 3.2.
I hae about 5k to spend and it will not be my main car so mpg not
important. I have recently sold a Corvette (very fast but abit flash/
only 2 seats). I enjoyed the performance, so I want a quick Jaguar,
but I also want it to be as diy friendly as can be. The cars on my my
short list are 1988 on v12 XJS (I like the later seats/wheels etc)
XJR (6 cylinder supercharged) xj12 (40 shape). I liked the
series 3 saloon but I understand the later ones suffered as a result
of emission equipment. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Duncan

Hi All,
New here so hello everyone. I recently got a 92 5.3 XJS Convertible
(see album) and would like to get some trim parts (interior and
exterior). Does anyone know of any companies supplying items like the
wood for the centre console, boot lid badges etc?

Hi Pauline,
I have uploaded a file on here that is an excellent source of
information for the XJS. There was a 5.3 Litre version which is
earlier than yours. I am certain if you wade through the file(well
actually it's nore of a book) section which gives a table on how to
work out the engine and chasis numbers to determine exactly what you
have and also will give you some great tips on keeping that beautiful
car going.

It's in the file section of the group, or alternatively click here
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/jaguarxj40xj6andxjsclub/files/
It's quite a big word file in Zip format, but it's well worth the
download.

I have a problem with the brakes on my 92 XJS.
When I press the brake pedal sometimes I get a jolt as if the ABS is
working instantly. The ABS warning light is coming on occassionally,
but I do not have a sloppy brake pedal and the brakes seem to work
fine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this is?

I have a 1983 3.6 XJS manual which I inherited from a friend. It was
running well the last time it was used a few years ago. When I try and
start it now, it floods instantly. If I remove the fuel pump relay, it will
then start and run for a minute or so then stop. If I then put the relay
back in it floods again immediately. Any suggestions?

Just recently purchased an Immaculate XJS Convertible and having a
problem with the Automatic Hood. It was working and now the Side
windows move but not the hood and I have to do this Manually by
changing over the switch behind the drivers seat from Auto to Manual.

This is really hard for a lady to do and very unprofessional....

Any advise what I need to do. (I dont trust my local garage being a

Any advise (please keep it simple) would be appreciated

I had the same problem, and I think it was more of a safety matter. I let the
hydrulics flow back, which you have to do for the manual operation. I did this a
few times, and never had a problem since.

The system is really a reliable one so the problems will be minor ones.

I Have had similar problems but traced mine to the wonderfully
unreliable electrical system on these otherwise beatiful cars.

The problem was down to dirty switch and connector contacts. A good
cleans and some WD40 sorted the problem.

You cant tell if the Handbrake is off or on unless the light is on the
dash. But now the light wont go off and as there is "no feeling" in the
handbrake I don't dare drive it in case the handbrake is locked or
something.

Does anyone have any ideas please

Try driving the vehicle backwards and forwards a couple of times (just a couple
of feet or so). The brake may then free itself and doing this won't do any harm.

Hello? Does anyone still come here?
I have owned a 1990 XJ-S coupe since 2001. I am quite well versed in
repair techniques. I would be more than happy to share my
experiences, but only if I know people are interested...

Come on folks! post up

Terry

Hi Terry,
Good to have you on board. I still get the messages from the board,
but as you can see there is not always a lot of traffic.
Actually I have a problem at the moment which you may be able to
help with.

I get ABS and Brake warning lights when I push the pedal and the
pedal feel a bit soft.
Using the analysis, I get the code 21(main valve) and nothing else.
I have checked all of the wiring(usual suspect) and this all seems
ok.
Bearing in mind I lve in a country where parts are not just scarce
they are not available(so it's a David Manners Red Cross package
every time I need something) how do I tell if it's the main valve or
the master cylinder that is at fault.

Thanks

Dave

Woah! ABS...something I am learning about! Sorry, can't help at this time.
I replaced an ABS sensor recently, it cost me an arm and a leg but it
put the light out!

Join the forum on Jaguar World Monthly. There is a great guy on there
called Steve who has forgotten more stuff about Jags than i could ever
hope to know.

Best regards

Terry
