has anyone ever analyzed the ribbons/medals displayed on
Sheppard's dress uniform at the end of 'Sunday'?
if they have - do we now where the analysis is listed/archived?
after doing a few searches via google and wikipedia - I didn't come up
with anything but I'm sure someone must have...
any help, pointers, hints, etc. would be greatly appreciated

SGA 'The Characters You Love' ver. 4
-- REMEMBER to change the .dat to
.avi to view video file!
You have to have great characters to make great stories, and SGA
certainly delivered! The actors took the characters and made them human
and, most importantly, believable; and the stories revolved around that
believability--whether it was their bravery, or their fear, or their
sense of humor, or even their mistakes, they made the stories work
because we, as viewers, could relate to them--to their humanness. And I
felt that bond with them from the very first episode.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get to that feeling with
Sanctuary. I don't believe the characters--perhaps it was the way
they were introduced because I thought that the pilot episode
was...dumb. And the whole thing with Helen and Jack the Ripper is
just weird--and already overdone. It didn't make me want to see
more. I have watched every episode so far, but I still can't relate
to it.
And, as far as the "sure-fire hit" thing--SciFi already had a
hit with SGA. So they cancelled it.
Carol
I've corresponded with several SGA fans that were not overly impressed
with the original webepisodes of Sanctuary and now with the 'real' thing
they still aren't impressed
even ignoring Amanda and her character as a factor of my impression of
the show - it just doesn't do a thing for me - there's no 'reach out and
grab' me to it - unlike when I stumbled across SGA when SciFi was
rebroadcasting the pilot and caught Sheppard's first face-to-face
encounter with a WraithQueen - the Wraith didn't make the big impression
on me - it was Sheppard (Joe)
after watching only a short bit and then figuring out what the heck I was
watching - I immediately went looking for the FULL pilot and from the
point where Sheppard didn't follow O'Neill's hasty (and wrong) advice on
where to move the helicopter as the drone buzzed it - I was forever and
completely SOLD on Sheppard and followed then on the show and then on
McKay....
there was something about Joe's John Sheppard that grabbed my attention -
and as I've told others - it wasn't just his good looks (that's pretty
damned sexy and gorgeous is icing on the cake so to speak) - pretty boys
and handsome men are a dime-a-dozen in the movies and tv - there has to
be MORE far far more for me to really take notice of a character(actor) -
I loved that there was so much depth to the character - on the surface
relaxed and unconcerned -- but underneath there was a darkness of loss
and abandonment and that there was one hell of lot more than just a
natural born pilot with a strong expression of the ATA gene - cause
pilots aren't generally known as sharpshooters, nor necessarily great
combat leaders - and yet Sheppard was all that - strong and vulnerable,
funny and serious, smart but playing it dumb a great deal of the
time
I know that Tapping is trying for a 'mysterious' character with Helen but
I'm just not getting the vibe from her that makes me want to know more
about her and unfortunately I'm not getting a great vibe from any of the
rest of the characters either
*shrug*

there's a lot of 'this is creepy/scary' factor in the show unfortunately I don't find the characters believable (especially Tapping's Helen whatevertheheckherlastnameis) and if I'm going to watch a show regularly I NEED to be drawn in by the characters NOT just a few of the interesting plotpoints
reportedly Sanctuary is a bonafied hit for SciFi though

And, no offense to Amanda Tapping--I met her last year on set and she's an
absolutely lovely person--but I just can't seem to get interested in Sanctuary.
I've tried. And tried. I just don't like it. JMHO
Carol
<<eh - I can't stand Sanctuary in part because of Tapping - her British accent is attrocious and the black hair looks straight out of the bottle - the cheap supermarket version of hair dyes at that>>
Well, I wasn't going to mention the horrible "British accent" and the hair...but, since you mentioned it...I just wonder who's bright idea it was. I realize that they may have felt that Amanda needed a new look to help viewers disassociate her with Stargate, but couldn't they have done a better job on her hair?
And, in truth, her accent is the main reason that I don't like the show. It's just so...affected.
The other reason I don't like it is Ashley. Now, THERE is a believable character...NOT!
Oh, to be able to continue to watch the flawed, mistake-prone, all-to-human, and, therefore, wonderfully complex characters of SGA!
As for DW, I'll probably try out number 11, but I'm not sure anyone will ever come up to the level that Tennant took it to. The man is absolutely BRILLIANT--to coin a phrase...LOL
Yep. I have to
agree. And here begins my mini rant.
First, they aren't showing SGA at 5:00 on weekday afternoons like they
have for a couple of years here in the States. (Or SG-1 at 6:00,
for that matter!)
yeah - we noticed that too - it sucks
Second, they
changed the title music back to the 10 second opening instead of letting
us hear the glorious minute of music that used to open the
show.
yep - that so SciFi can get that extra 30-45 sec of commercial time
squeezed in *rolls eyes*
Third, like you
pointed out, they seem to be favoring other shows and completely
forgetting about SGA's existence to the end of season 5. Its like
the show has already been taken off the air!
no kidding... sigh
Fourth, (and this
is why I don't trust SciFi), they keep telling us to watch "the best
season of Stargate ever"...but...didn't they cancell it? Am I
missing something?
actually SciFi isn't the one that cancelled SGA - that was MGM's
decision
On a good note, I
checked IMDB the other night and, in Joe Flanigan's filmography, it lists
an "Untitled Stargate: Atlantis Project"--working title:
"Project Twilight"--to be aired in June of 2009. I am,
however, not holding my breath for the movie. Like I said before, I
don't trust SciFi or MGM any further than I could throw them...and don't
even get me started on Brad Wright.
yeah - BW is at the top of my personal hit list and will remain there for
the foreseeable future
And, no offense to
Amanda Tapping--I met her last year on set and she's an absolutely lovely
person--but I just can't seem to get interested in Sanctuary. I've

Carol
Oh, and BTW, I just found out today that David Tennant isn't going to be
Doctor Who anymore. So, now I've lost the only TWO shows that I
really cared about!!
well with David - it's been in the rumor mill for the last couple of
years that he'd be leaving the biggest debate was if he'd last through
another series after this last and fortunately there WILL be 4 DW
specials in 2009 - it's just at the end that he's regenerating
with that in mind - DW is built upon the tradition of regenerating and
having a new Doctor every so often - I was gutted when Eccleston left
after one series and couldn't imagine them finding someone as good to
fill the Doctor's shoes and lo and behold they did - Tennant is
definitely one of the best Doctors the series has ever been blessed with
and his acting ability is not to be denied (he's had some of the BEST eps
of DW ever) - but I'm holding my heart in hand and preying to the deities
that lightning with strike yet again and we'll be wondering in a few
years what all the fuss was about
I'm
depressed.
believe me I hear ya

can some point me to the site/page that has the info on what
SGU is supposed to be aiming for? I have someone trying to tell me that
they're aiming SGU for 20-30somethings and I know that's too damned old
especially when everything we've heard is they're aiming for that younger
demo
I know I've read what the storyline is supposed to be etc. but at the

anyway they then introduce a NASA scientist brought in on the project -

Chris McKay - a planetary scientist/explorer with NASA Ames

inside I'm thinking 'well all he needs is an Ancient Scanner and/or LSD'
