Okay, well if you're all going to join the band
you'll need stage names, e.g. Pablo El Diablo, Papa
Midnight etc. Anyone who thinks of a good name is in the
band. Earth, Wind and Fire used to have over thirty
people in their band so I can't see why we can't do the
same.

Okay, so all of Tédo want to join JW&theVS. How about if you just take our name
and some of the better songs, that would save some time.

Okay, this weekend was the first time I'd seen
the rest of the band for a while so here's the latest
about who's in the band and who isn't.
Grunt moved
to France yesterday so he's out for a while. Jonesy
(lead singer with Leash) has offered us his drumming
services while he's away.
I spoke to Ants on the
weekend and he told me that I'd kicked him out of the
band last week. I kick him out of the band most weeks,
I don't know why he decided to listen to me this
time. Ants and Rachel have joined another band but Ants
said he'll still play with the Voodoo Starfish when
we've got something sorted.
Nige is still about and
is available.
I'll be practicing with some of the
guys that we played with as Johnny & the No-shows in
the Sol Bar battle of the bands but as this isn't a
full band yet I won't be kept too busy. I've also been
asked to practice with WaveEdge sometime in the near
future and there's even talk of a Magic Fish reunion but
number one priority is, if not getting the Voodoo
Starfish back together, then at least getting the songs
down on cd.

The on-going saga of Johnny Wishbone's drummer's
need to leave the country has changed direction once
again. Grunt's job at Swansea sound has fallen through
so I've bought his kit and he's off to France. I'll
let you know when he changes his mind next, in the
meantime are there any volanteers to teach me how to drum?

Um... I managed to get a replacment drummer
instead of Grunt who had chipped a bone in his finger but
then I couldn't get hold of the rest of the band so I
found replacments for them as well.
The line up
last night was;
Lead guitar - me
Drums - Simon
(Tédo)
Vocals - Splodge (1 dum monkey)
Rhythm Guitar -
Slodge's next-door neighbour (has been playing guitar 6
months)
Bass - Simon's mate
Guitar - Simon's mate's mate
(for the Fish song)
The band played under the title
Johnny & the no-shows. We played the three songs, apart
from the fish song they were all made up on the
spot.
We didn't win the battle of the bands but two people
did tell me that we were the better band.

Well there were 4 of us playing (our mate played
as a guest guitarist cuz we were scared). When we
were given £200, he took his £50 share and left, so he
still has that. Then, after we gave the £150 the 3 of
us had back, we were given £90. So that's....£140
overall? £60 of our money is still with them. They wanted
an hour and a half of music, they got it.

No, we did get paid in the end, just not the £200
as we were told. We ended up with £30 quid each, as
well as the £50 our stand-in guitarist ran off with as
soon as he got it...hehe. No worries. We know never to
play there again, that's all.

The Voodoo Starfish's lead guitarist, Pablo El
Diablo, was shocked to remember when he woke up on Sunday
morning that he'd agreed to sing in new Turk Rock group,
WaveEdge. Anyone who has heard Pabs singing will know this
was not a wise choice.
I believe he also
challenged Surge's singer to a fight and told the bucket
story to bucket woman's brother.

Things may be changing in the Voodoo Starfish
soon as our drummer, Grunt is going to work in France
until July. He's leaving after our next Battle of the
Bands appearance in the Sol bar a fortnight Tuesday
(don't know who we're up against yet but it won't be
Tyderium, they're playing next week).
He had this
planned for a while so as a contingency plan Leigh
Hipkiss (ex-Pig Ugly and Leash) was lined up to fill in
for the three months. Unfortunately, Hipkiss moved to
Guernsey on Monday. At the moment Paul 'Jonesy' Jones, the
singer with Leash, will be drumming for those three
months but as Leash is his top priority we're not sure
how much time he can spare. I'd like to see him play
a gig when we're supporting Leash, the poor dab
will be knackered.
We were supposed to record a
demo after the battle of the bands had finished but
I'm not sure now whether we'll wait for Grunt to get
back, ask Paul to play or to get a new drummer.
But
rest assured there will always be a Voodoo Starfish
and any rumours you've heard of me playing bass for a
Crocketts cover band is totally unfounded. I've never even
heard anything by them.

Johnny Wishbone & the Voodoo Starfish have taken
the first step on the way to their first million.
After having songs on mp3.com for god-knows how long,
finally the band's earning have risen above zero. Thanks
to their many millions of fans downloading such hits
as Tangerines and all the other crap, Johnny
Wishbone & the Voodoo Starfish now have $0.07 in the bank.
I'm no ecomonist and so I can't translate that into
real money for you but I'm sure it's enough for the
band to move into Terry Griffiths' mansion down
Pembrey. Actually I've heard that Terry asked Nige to move
in with him a few years back but don't quote me on
that.
To help your favourite voodoo-related band carry on
in this life of luxury to which they have now become
acustomed visit the site <a href=http://www.mp3.com/voodoostarfish

to download the tunes (apart from Summer Song, I
don't know what Ants was doing there. I should have
taken the song off but it's the only one you can hear
my guitar on) and pledge more money to the lads (and
Rach).

playing under the title Geoff Capes & his army of budgies
and we'll be playing mainly covers. Any suggestions
as to what covers we do?
I've been told Tédo do a

probably do Two Pints of lager and a packets of crisps as
well.

For any of you who weren't there, we won the
battle of the bands last night (hooray!). I haven't got
the explanation from the judges on why we won it but
from what I can gather they just didn't like the style
of music played by Paragon Blue.
As you all know
Johnny Wishbone are all big fans of Paragon Blue (I've
seen them 5 times now) and we would like to play tunes
more like theirs (apart from me, I'd prefer a three
minute, three chord max.) so we were surprised when we
won but we a lot of people said we were more tight
than usual so we're happy with that.
And big thanks
to Arwyn and Stickman for the use of their p.a. and
for doing the sound for us.
Here's the set list
from last night.
Desperately seeking
something
Summer's song
Alphabet people
Star spangled
cycle
Mexican Bandit
Free Beer
Tangerines
Only problem
is that I heard we've got Real Madrid away in the
quaters and they still won't let me play the fish song.

We decided on the set list for tonight's gig last
night. I told the band which ones the crowd always say
they like and they said which ones we're playing. The
only song we agreed on was Tangerines. But now it's
your chance to have your say, I have added a poll to
the links page of this club so that you can vote for
your favourite Johnny Wishbone song and I can use that
as evidence next time we pick a set list.
Oh and

Many thanks to Tédo who put on a great show last
night. The blistering fretwork of Ellis, the wild
jerkless drumming from Simon and the competent bass guitar
of Lloyd. Highlight for me was the impromptu
performance of Frank Zappa's 'Bobby Brown goes down' by Ellis
from Tédo and Grunt from the Voodoo
Starfishes.
When I asked people in the crowd who had seen us
before whether they preferred the new song or the song
we cut from the set for it they said they didn't
notice the difference, I don't know why we bother.
Despite the fact that the fish song has also been cut
apart from on special occasions, the crowd still
insisted on a verse of it. We've only done a few gigs and
already we're one hit wonders.
See you all Tuesday for
the battle against Paragon Blue to the death.
