minutes for meeting on february 28th
present: orla, lauren, ros, heena, humey, clare

next meeting is monday march 13th, 6:30, the basement

womens cafe
-there is a clash with a youth event at the basement for the may cafe so
we've changed the times to 3:30-7 to avoid this. orla is going to check
with nes that we will be able to have the space from then, especially
because we booked it first!
-we discussed how to make it explicit that the cafe is trans inclusive and
for all who identify as queer women. we felt that all terms sounded
strained but would use 'self identified queer women' until/if we think of
something better
-there is a basement logistics meeting on thursday 9th march that some of
us are going to go to (the more the better!) to argue the case for having
the cafe as a womens only space. some people were hostile to the idea last
time it was brought up, or didn't want to guarantee that men involved with
the basement wouldn't come in to prepare food etc. we felt that they
should be able to work around that for a few hours every month especially
since the basement cafe isn't open on a monday so food prep wouldn't be
that urgent.

quiz prizes
-we decided on making a cake for the winners and finding a booby prize at
one of the basement jumble sales for the losers

film festival
-we booked a date at the basement for this, 15-16 july
-film ideas so far are:
the original d.e.b.s
pink mirror
we need more!
-we thought we could have a feature screening on the friday night with
food and a couple of shorts to open the event. we also felt that if there
was a well known film showing on that day that people would be more likely
to come and then return on the saturday
-for submissions from diy film makers we thought we should ask for:
queer themed films
on dvd/vhs
send us a copy we can keep, if they want it back they need to send an sae
-send a biography/synopsis for the programme
-there are probably distros etc we can approach about suitable films

kaffequeeria
-we thought it would be a shame not to keep up the momentum from the last
kaffe. the basement is fully booked for april so we thought of trying the
lesbian and gay centre off oxford road for 23rd april
-there will be another one on june 11th with lianne hall
-we also booked the basement on 20th august for a kaffe. the diary is an
academic one so it ran out in august, bu we decided that doing a kaffe
every 2 months would be good.
-lauren suggested matthew who plays good folky music to play at a kaffe

wagamamas
-kaffequeeria outing! we decided to arrange a date for this at the next
meeting when there are more people and we're all a bit less busy.

from/ can we borrow one for free?

-think about an email call for submissions for the film fest and who we
should send this to
