I think you'll find that the UK equivalent yarn is aran weight.
These different terms can be confusing, I know!
If you check the needle size and the gauge on the pattern, you can
usually work out the yarn 'weight' (with aran, you're usually talking
size 4.5-5.5mm needles and around 18 stitches to 4").
