Hi Girls
Here is a message from Anne:
Went into Boyes today and they have some new yarn in that is really super, its
New Pure Merina Wool, in about twelve really excellent colours, I haven't seen
anything like this for years. Not cheap but really so good, Perhaps Fiona you
would like to publish this on knitting natter news page as I am sure you will be
impressed with it. Love A

I've just had an email through from Scandinavian Knitting Design,
intended for the group.
They have a Spring/Summer sale on their yarn.

There might be another Boyes nearer to you - they
cover most of Northern England -

The Lincoln one is probably the worst to find! Both
the Sleaford and Newark branches are in relatively
obvious places!!

I had someone from Don't Dump That collect a music stand from me
yesterday at the Drill Hall whilst we were knitting and Kat asked me
about it, so thought I'd post the details on here in case anyone else
is interested.
Both Freecyle and Don'tDumpThat are trying to prevent unwanted things
ending up in landfill when people have a clear out. You just post what
you have to get rid of your local forum (I've got rid of a music
stand, horse riding stuff, an old bike and some DIY stuff) and people
get in touch if they're interested in having it and you arrange a
mutually convenient time/location for the collection. There's more
details on both the websites. Freecycle works on an email basis so you
get emails with all the stuff offered, whilst Don'tDumpThat has a
board format.

Katie
http://knitdaisies.blogspot.com
I've just left my freecycle groups because I'm fed up of the way no one
seems to know the words "please" or "thank you" and the way everyone is so
grabby
over everything. Unless you sit online all day you don't get a chance with
anything either. Some of the "wanteds" are really cheeky too - and I hate
the way some people are always asking for stuff but never actually offer
anything.

Lucie, I didn't get on with our local Freecycle either, for exactly
the reasons you mentioned. Add to that the awkwardness of the Yahoo
format for that volume of posts and it drove me mad!
However, I've found Don'tDumpThat much better. It's a lot easier to
use and is quite strictly moderated but in a nice way. There are also
sections for chat/local events and stuff and it's much more of a
community than Freecycle.

Yes, both the Newark Freecycle and Don'tDumpThat
boards are fairly small and friendly so it's been fine
here (although it can take a while to shift stuff as
it's SO small!). I tend to prefer Don'tDumpThat though
because of the board format - much easier to see
what's being offered and requested.
I've often wondered what on earth it must be like to
live somewhere big where there's loads of members -
imagine what the London boards must be like!
Have you ever seen any knitting stuff on any of the
boards? There was someone on the Newark one wanting
knitting patterns a while ago.

I've seen a couple of knitting machines on offer but no hand knitting
things. I've given away odds and ends of yarn to people knitting for
charity.

Yeah, I suppose when I've had knitting/craft type
things to get rid of I've generally known others who
could use them or given them to the Guides or put them
on here like the rug wool! ;-) so maybe that's what
other people do too.

I'll try Don'tDumpThat then. The last set of freecycle messages I got

I've just uploaded the May-August poster and flyers to the group
(nothing like getting the year on with!).
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/knitlincs/files/
Please feel free to download copies and print them off, and give them
to anyone who might be interested! If you can think of any more shops
etc that might like to display one that would be fab too. I've got
copies to take to Sleaford tomorrow, and will attempt to remember to
take them to the Drill Hall too (but I might not make the meeting on
14th).
I've included something about "occasional meetings on Monday
lunchtimes" at the Drill Hall too.

I still haven't seen any in Lincoln but I wonder if it was this stuff
- new from J C Brett. Boyes stock quite a few of their other yarns. It
looks lovely!
