Concerned with the Heritage, Liveability and Quality of Life of Ladywell Conservation Area and Ladywell Ward in SE London.
Ladywell, The Historical Heart of Lewisham, where Leof the Jute may have burnt his boat and settled in the 7th Century! We conduct annual tours and are concerned with planning applications, trees, local traders, streetscene quality, building works and biodiversity in parks and gardens.
Issues:
Negotiating with LBL about the future of the Playtower, Coroners Court and Mortuary; maybe the QUIRK review will bring about change?
The Police Station (Purelake) planning app (DC07/66133) accessible in the reference library.
Travellers Relocation to Watergate School site in Church Grove.
Negotiating with the Ladywell Adhesive Specialities Ltd building architects to replace sensitively.
Brockley Conservation Area has been extended to top of Vicars Hill.
European 'LIFE' and other funding has resulted in works on the River Ravensbourne and Ladywell Fields for wildlife and people (new river channel, cycle routes (hopefully even under Ladywell Rd) into hospital, new paths, bridges and access to station. Felled wood reused in park, education centre and nature reserve opened up used, skate park built.
Local Traders improving the shopping range, style, facilities cleanliness initiated by Paul at Masons.
We have been successful in adding local buildings to the Statutory List of Historic or Special Architectural Interest:
Ladywell Railway Stn (1857)
The Old Fire Stn (1898)
Police Stn (1899)
Coroners Court (1894)
Playtower
