SESSION REPORT SUNDAY 8 OCT 2006
There were 9 of us, after a late withdrawal and a no-show. 9 is
perfect.
We broke the ice for half an hour with one game of WEREWOLF. Yet
another rules-variant, as is always the case with Werewolf. Evil
won, George Y and Josep being the wolves, Stuart sharing the win by
cleverly getting himself as the sorcerer lynched, rather than risk a
wolf feeling the rope. Neat.
George Y, Josep, Dave, Neil and Andrew M went upstairs and played
ANTIKE, which I think George had brought (so that we know who to
pester to bring it along, because I gather it was fun). They
enjoyed it, especially Josep who did his usual, ie won.
Downstairs, Stuart, Alex E, Gordon and I played BILLABONG, which
George Y had very kindly bought and donated to the club/me. OK,
me. A fun and elegantly simple game, with brain-burning at the
end. So Stuart won. Just ahead of Alex E. Gordon and I were very,
very close. To each other, not to the two who were winning. Then
we four played PITCH FEVER!, the ad agency game. Against Stuart,
this game had a secret ingredient - a huge luck factor! It's fun
and luck rather than deep. So Stuart came last, Gordon won.
Most of us stayed on for a bit of debate about how well the club was
going, and whether we should have "featured games" pre-announced for
each session, and whether people should be expected to have boned up
on the rules beforehand. Pretty much 100% agreement: going well;
yes, pre-announced featured games; OPTIONAL whether you bone up on
the game beforehand or not, we don't want to get that heavy. And
there should always be more players than those who signed up for the
featured game, so members can still turn up and pick a game and
play, no problem.
