Thoughts on brilliant IMPERIAL game   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #123 of 607 |
This is mainly to the 5 of us who played the very-new game IMPERIAL
yesterday, but feel free to join in, either commenting or asking
questions.

Yesterday's first session was a terrific mix of economy-management,
diplomacy and a bit of warfare. Perfect mix. Perfect outcome!

It was partly made interesting by the fact that there WAS some
warfare (so nations prospered or suffered economically. In
retrospect it's easy to see that those investing in nations with
nobody invading them came out ahead (me and Neil), because you could
lean more towards production/taxation/payout.

So, I was glad to see Britain, France, Germany and Austria having to
fund wars.

My thought is: I wonder whether our second game would/will
therefore swing the pendulum heavily the other way? We'll all avoid
warfare? Would that make the game a little unexciting? What do you
think?

Neil has made some good points about "Imperial". There are a lot of different stategies to be used in this game. An example was Allan controlling his Germany...

Well, I still have this fear that any SECOND game of Imperial will swing the opposite way from our exciting first game, and involve very little war, just...

Bob, I can understand your eagerness to 'get under the bonnet & fiddle about with the innards' but I think that ANY game (not just Imperial) deserves about...

Hmmm, i think this game is good enough to merit continued play under standard rules several times at least and arguably indefinitely without tinkering. With...
