Wow! [elg] Edinburgh League of Gamers'Year Four begins tonight. So much to do,
so many games to play...

Membership stays at 15 for the year; pay-to-play stays at 2/1(members) fo rthe
fourth year in a row (and despite rising rent, etc.).

The new dice are IN too! Green is the colour of your eyes(*) - and our dice.
Despite them also going up in cost we're still selling them at [just under] cost
- and throwing in bags too: 7 for 20, or 15 for 50.

Are we good to you or what?

Andy

PS Events information to follow

(*) those with different coloured eyes will still be able to roll them. Results
vary.

PREVIEW NIGHT - 26th August
Experience the cold horror of claustrophobic combat in the vacuum of a derelict,
floating spacecraft. This classic game celebrates its 20th anniversary with a
strictly limited 3rd edition. The guys from GW will be at [elg] with TWO SETS of
their updated fast-pace board game. Who can tally the most Genestealer kills,
tag the fastest mission completion, or wipe out the Terminators first?

From the GW website:
"From the depths of space an ancient vessel drifts slowly towards the Imperium
of Mankind - a space hulk. Within its confines, untold thousands of Genestealers
slowly emerge from hibernation. The Space Marines must enter the cramped
corridors and tomb-like chambers of the ancient ship to defeat this alien
menace.

"Space Hulk is a board game for two players, recreating the battles fought
between the Space Marines and Genestealers. One player commands the Space
Marines as they carry out deadly missions in the ancient Space Hulk, and the
other commands the horde of Genestealers opposing them. Space Hulk's fast-paced
rules simulate the tense atmosphere of a mission deep inside the cramped
confines of a derelict space hulk, where split-second decisions are needed for
victory."

Game On!

Morning folks,

Some of you have recently been asking about the t-shirts and
messenger-bags that can be seen around the club. Well here's a wee [badly kept]
secret: you can buy them too! Check out http://elg.spreadshirt.net for [elg]
Gaming Apparel.

Normally we all order in one go so as to split postal charge, but the company,
Spread Shirt, is running a free postage promotion: "... Here’s how: with the
voucher code FREESHIPPING, your customers’ orders will ship for free this
coming weekend (from July 16-19) when they order at least TWO articles from
your shop..."

So there you have it! Get a current-season red shirt (*), a preview of
next-season's green theme, go old-school blue, or step out of the crawd and
scream out your allegiance with the new yellow shirt _and_ bag!

Cheers,

Andy

Folks,

Here's a quick update for forthcoming events:

PLANETSTRIKE
The boys from GW Edinburgh will be attending [elg] on Wednesday 24th June to
talk you through the latest game supplement for Warhammer 40,000. This spanky
new book promises to provide new ways to stick it to your favourite opponents on
a bunker-busting scale. Turn up with 1,500+ points and in addition to the normal
Force Organisation feel free to take up to 3 HQ's and up to SIX from _either_
ELITE or HEAVY SUPPORT slots. Oh yeah.

FORGOTTEN HEROES & COUNTER-ATTACK!
Although they've only been aviailable since last week, the Forgotten Heroes
Warhammer Fantasy tournament (5 September) has allocated 14/20 tickets, while
the Counter-Attack! Warhammer 40,000 tournament (12 September) is running on
8/20. Tell your friends to email Andy (andy_meechan@...) soon to reserve
your place.

APOCALYPSE!
25th July sees our fourth (fifth?) Apocalypse game, this time we hope to play
with all-xenos races. Talk to Nick (nbrigg@...) to reserve one of the
hotly anticipated places. This is Apoc. as it was designed to be played: few
generals &many models; one huge table & much doughnuts!

First of all, MANY APOLOGIES if you receive this multiple times - we're working

On 5 September, we have 'Forgotten Heroes', a Warhammer Fantasy Tournament.
Features include:

[*]1,999-points; no named characters/upgrades.
[*]Bespoke tried-and-tested rules
[*]FOUR rounds of play, each within a 2-hour time limit
[*]Overall Champion, Best General, and Players’ Choice for Best Army awards
[*]Lunch & donuts provided!

Note: This replaces 40k Radio's World Wide War. Regretably 40k Radio have taken
the decision to increase their side of the participation fee and are charging
$16-$21 per head to take part and this would mean we'd have to charge £22-£26
per ticket. We took the decision to run our own-brand for half the cost and
spread the prize pool amongst the competitors.

[elg] are proud to present two one-day tournaments at Conpulsion 2009.

While we have extensive experience running our own tournament calendar, this is
our first tournament in conjunction with Conpulsion and so we are doing
something special to celebrate. Both tournaments will have prize support funded
by the tournament entry fee (the remainder of this entry fee goes to charity as
[elg] are running this free of charge). This tournament will also see the return
of the [i]Conpulsion Charity Re-roll[/i] (details in the tournament pack)

Saturday 28th March: Warhammer 40,000
This three-round tournament is set at 1,500 points per game. We are creating a
narrative-driven
set of scenarios using a pre-determined combination of the missions on page 91
of the Warhammer
40,000 rulebook. Details to follow.

Sunday 29th March: Warhammer Fantasy Battle
This three-round tournament is set at 2,000 points per game. We are creating a
narrative using a
mixture of previous- and current-edition scenarios mixed with occasional
reference to the Special
Features on pages 100 &101 of the Warhammer Fantasy rulebook.

Tournament & Convention Costs
5 for the tournament + the Conpulsion 2009 entry fee. Reduced entry for
pre-registration costs 8
for day entry or 12 for the full weekend. On the day itself this will be 10
for day entry or 15
for the full weekend.

RPG’s and traders will follow shortly, along with the usual Pub Quiz and
charity auction.
Discussions with the Teviot continue, and a change of the traditional event

Also we are looking for nominations for the charity, criteria 2 out of three of
small, local and with a personal connection to the gaming community.

Wow. For those of us who get a tingle in our tummy when we buy new models, Black
Lion Games have some good news... Pop along, have a chat and see what you can
pick up.

From Liam at Black Lion:
"We've just started a sale on miniatures and I thought you might like to know
and pass it on to the club. Most of it is Warmachine and Hordes, but there's a
bunch of other stuff in there too and its all at 25% off the marked price."

Further, Black Lion will be tracking any Board Games purchased by [elg] members.
Please show your card when purchasing a board game as, if there are enough
purchases then we'll start getting discount on them too! I started the ball
rolling already by picking up Agricola :)

(This is based on the increase iin board games being played at [elg], so thanks
to Travis, Emma, and Paul, plus all you who've joined in.)

Hope your festivities were suitably jolly and fun. [elg] will be opening its doors again on Wednesday 7th January and we'll be around for another 50 weeks this year before taking another break!

700 dice were sold in the last week before the break, but the good news is that there are 300 left if you want any. 20 for £7 and 50 for £15 (all dice come loose).

Nick has been hard at work while we were all partying and has created a scenery storage cupboard on the 2nd floor! The doors open for the first time on Wednesday.

See you soon.

Apologies if you get this more than once, but better to receive than to be
forgotten about!

THE [elg] DICE ARE BACK!

After a yammering clamour for the lovely elemental dice of last year we have
commissioned another print-run. As with the membership cards, these dice are red
as blue is so last season. With the lovely speckle on them they're a shade
closer to orange, but we like them anyways.

So, how much and what are the perks for buying them?

* They increase your prowess in your game of choice* 20 dice for 7, or 50 dice
for 15
* It is said that they are imbued with mystical properties by the
prophet-mystics of Barvaria
* The first 20 Members who buy 20 - and the first 4 who buy 50 - get leatherette
pouches thrown in
* They go with your eyes

Good Afternoon All,

Just keep everyone in the loop.

The Space Marine vs Tyrannid Apocalypse game this saturday 13th has been cancelled due to lack of sign-ups.

I can only apologies to the players that did sign-up.
I should have know that a themed battle in december when lots of people would be busy was a bad idea.
So again my bad! :(

I managed to tell all the signed up players apart from George Wilson so if anyone has contact details for him could they tell him the news.

Thanks

Nick

WHAT'S HAPPENING ON... Wednesday 19th November
Food! - 7.30pm ("Looks like bacon rolls are back on the menu, boys.")
We've been talking to The Food Guy and found out he'd been ill for the couple of
weeks he didn't appear. He's agreed to come by at 7.30pm every week as we've
found 8.30pm to be a bit late to eat. Let us know how it works out and we can
readjust in the new year.

Music
Pash will be bringing in his laptop and array of speakers over the next few
weeks to provide more tunes during the night. It seems to be going rather well
so far, but let us know your thoughts either way.

Rompa Stompa! (Review)
With 20 players turning up and representing Stirling Wargamers, DWARF, and of
course [elg], there was good spirits all day. It was an even split with 10
players for each of WFB and 40k and the honours went to: Andy Taylor (WFB) for
Best Overall; Dave Taylor (WFB) Best General; Ricky Simms (40k) Best General;
and James Esland (40k) Player's Choice for Best Painted. Andy is almost 16, but
turned up with his dad, a fully painted Skaven army and a knowledge of the game
that schooled everyone he played - the future is here today (worry about it
tomorrow).

Into The Woods - all month
The Warhammer Fantasy Battle campaign reaches its second Round! RL(tm) has been
hectic. (Andy)

Faction Friction - all month
Also reaching the second Round is the Urban War campaign to claim Iskandria in
the name of your chosen Faction using 300-pt Strike-Teams. (Andy)

ON THE HORIZON

... "'Twas the 'nid before Christmas and all over the scene. Nothing was
stirring, nor even a Marine." ...
Apocalypse the way it was designed to be played: with a GM, story and very
limited tickets! These are becoming a bi-monthly affair, so sign up soon. NOTE:
the date is 13th December, NOT 18th (Nick)

Christmas Closedown - 24th & 31st December
[elg] shuts its doors for these nights. No prizes for guessing why.

WARMACHINE & Hordes - January
New Year, new Tournament and campaign season. More details to follow(Digby)

40k Campaign - January

----- Original Message ----

Folks,

I mentioned that Stirling Wargamers are holding an Invitational WFB event as a
'mixer' for club members. The details have been released:

Sunday 2nd November (9.30am-6pm); 2250 points 3x Pitched Battles; 2 per head to
cover cost of hall hire

If you wish to head along and play then let me know Wednesday 17th September.
It'll be a grand day out and good to meet & play with members of Stirling
Wargamers, St Aidens (Glasgow), and DWARF (Dunfermline).

Sweet!

Review: World Wide War with 40k Radio
Saturday 20th saw 18 gamers attend [elg] to participate in 3 rounds of pretty
hard 40k scenarios. Mental faculties were duely stretched - as were stomachs at
lunch! Honours were taken by James Esland (Best Overall), Ian Courtney (Best
General), and Andy Leighton (Player's Choice for Best Army). Everyone left
excited and tired after enjoying a terrifiic day's gaming. There's a future
possibility of free tickets & accommodation for the Danish GT for [elg]

Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse - postscript
Saturday 9th saw an awesome 104-square feet of table and the premier of new 40k

Warhammer 40,000 (Andy M)
Nestled in the Segmentum Pacificus, the Armate System has been long overlooked
since its re-integration by Lord Macharius. A steady stream of tithes and the
usual flow of pilgrims back to Segmentum Solar have almost defined this
unremarkable system. However, in recent years cult activity has been on the
increase – as have tales of latent psychic abilities becoming predominant
amongst large sections of the populace. The auspicious Inquisition regards such
flux as worthy of scrutiny and so this small planet is on the crux of becoming
very remarkable indeed…

Briefings are at the END of this newsletter.

Warmachine / Hordes (Shevaun)
The CALL to ARMS campaign continues in it's fortnightly slot. New players are as
welcome as gnarled old veterans.

Urban War Demos (Alex & Andy M)
After an astonishingly successful Claymore & demos last week, more demos will be
run. Get along this week and try out the rules - models, dice, etc. all
provided!

ON THE HORIZON...
Battlefleet Gothic - 27th August (James B)
A few tables will be signed over to Fleet Admirals this evening. New or old it
matters not: get a game in and see how this Specialist Games classic flows. If
you like it enough, we'll run games throughout September. There will be fleets
available for you to try out on the night.

THE ARMATE HERESY
Briefings. There are four factions: Radical, Puritan, Chaos, and Disruptive:
Radical Briefing
For 30 years the plan for humanity’s psychic emergence has been artificially
accelerated on Armate. This test-bed has been led by Inquisitor Yemen, aided by
his most able pupil, Inquisitor Zara Castra. Castra has been fundamental in
forming strong relations with the Eldar – a race keen on the eradication of
the Pariah gene.

As The Project begins to bear its second generation of fruit, stable psychic
abilities have become more prevalent amongst the populace. However with cults of
unbelief springing up across the globe (ever stronger these past 5 years), the
Lords of the Inquisition have seen fit to send more of their own to investigate
and with them come the Astartes.

Farseers have intimated – via Castra – that The Project will be ended on
Armate by forces outside any of their control. For good or ill, the populace has
been condemned by this experiment, and the results must be proven repeatable.
The Emergence Project stations must be held secret for as long as it takes to
sift and download the volumes of data allowing the continuance and expansion of
The Project on other worlds.

Puritan (including Eldar) Briefing
The Duke has followed his instincts and tracked the wayward Inquisitor Yemen to
Armate. Adversaries for most of their careers, their differences borne from
faction rivalry, then by personal methods of Inquisition.

Three years have passed since The Duke’s eyes reported Yemen’s presence on
Armate – and with it a noticeable increase in cult activities. It seems that
Yemen has finally stepped into unbelief. That this planet has been chosen may
not be a coincidence, as it seems to harbour a large percentage of psychically
aware humans.

On his way to Armate, The Duke has ordered Yemen’s arrest. Forces of the
Inquisitorial arms have been seconded to aid primarily in the quashing of the
unbelief and secondly to make certain that the Dark Forces have no route through
these untutored minds. If apprehension is not possible, then all evidence to
condemn Yemen must be secured.

Chaos Briefing
Burning brighter than a thousand, thousand candles, the soul of a psyker can be
seen across the Warp by beings of unimaginable power and malice. The human world
know as Armate, residing in the Segmentum Pacificus has been shining like a
beacon these past thirteen years and is becoming increasingly brighter.

Disruptive dreams of promise have been gifted to some on Armate, prompting the
slow rise of a pseudo-religious cult dedicated to the psychic awakening of
Humanity. As the cults have become stronger it is apparent that total global
control is required and a coup d’état has been arranged. The twisted Astartes
Legions, those who walk as gods amongst men, angels of retribution and
revulsion, have begun their arrival in preparation for the next step.

The populace, grown fat and slovenly in their cities, must be led into the
wilderness and aid in the re-dedication of shrines to the elder gods.

Disruptive Forces Briefing
Dark Eldar. Our fey cousins have been too attentive of a mon-keigh world of
late. We must reap what they have sown, for what do they know of taking their
pleasures. The screams of psykers taste so much… sweeter when taken, than
asked for. A new playground beckons.

Tyranids. Fresh gene… Psychic sweet… Leviathan tendril dispatched…
Incorporation desired…  Harvest imminent.

Orks. “Wozzit? Sumfin’s going off in da wild west and we ain’t got an
invite? Well, shoot, let’s just rustle us up a rok and get over dere before da
‘umies bust each uvvers guts.” Warboss Garrit started, “After all –
dat’s our job!”

Necrons. +++ pariah harvest is crucial +++ minimising of resource puts future
plans under threat +++ increase harvest +++ destroy threats to harvest +++
children of the ancient enemy must be hindered +++ destroyed +++ maintain
priority of harvest +++
