WHAT'S HAPPENING ON... Wednesday 13th August
Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse - postscript
Saturday 9th saw an awesome 104-square feet of table and the premier of new 40k
Necron-themed terrain with over 15,000 points per side! The day was exciting and
the battle played out over a very enjoyable 5 hours. This is something that
we'll definately do again, so stay tuned! Photos from the day can be found at

Warhammer 40,000 (Andy M)
Nestled in the Segmentum Pacificus, the Armate System has been long overlooked
since its re-integration by Lord Macharius. A steady stream of tithes and the
usual flow of pilgrims back to Segmentum Solar have almost defined this
unremarkable system. However, in recent years cult activity has been on the
increase – as have tales of latent psychic abilities becoming predominant
amongst large sections of the populace. The auspicious Inquisition regards such
flux as worthy of scrutiny and so this small planet is on the crux of becoming
very remarkable indeed…
Briefings are at the END of this newsletter.
Warmachine / Hordes (Shevaun)
The CALL to ARMS campaign continues in it's fortnightly slot. New players are as
welcome as gnarled old veterans.
Urban War Demos (Alex & Andy M)
After an astonishingly successful Claymore & demos last week, more demos will be
run. Get along this week and try out the rules - models, dice, etc. all
provided!
ON THE HORIZON...
Battlefleet Gothic - 27th August (James B)
A few tables will be signed over to Fleet Admirals this evening. New or old it
matters not: get a game in and see how this Specialist Games classic flows. If
you like it enough, we'll run games throughout September. There will be fleets
available for you to try out on the night.
World Wide War with 40k Radio - 20th September (Andy M)

THE ARMATE HERESY
Briefings. There are four factions: Radical, Puritan, Chaos, and Disruptive:
Radical Briefing
For 30 years the plan for humanity’s psychic emergence has been artificially
accelerated on Armate. This test-bed has been led by Inquisitor Yemen, aided by
his most able pupil, Inquisitor Zara Castra. Castra has been fundamental in
forming strong relations with the Eldar – a race keen on the eradication of
the Pariah gene.
As The Project begins to bear its second generation of fruit, stable psychic
abilities have become more prevalent amongst the populace. However with cults of
unbelief springing up across the globe (ever stronger these past 5 years), the
Lords of the Inquisition have seen fit to send more of their own to investigate
and with them come the Astartes.
Farseers have intimated – via Castra – that The Project will be ended on
Armate by forces outside any of their control. For good or ill, the populace has
been condemned by this experiment, and the results must be proven repeatable.
The Emergence Project stations must be held secret for as long as it takes to
sift and download the volumes of data allowing the continuance and expansion of
The Project on other worlds.
Puritan (including Eldar) Briefing
The Duke has followed his instincts and tracked the wayward Inquisitor Yemen to
Armate. Adversaries for most of their careers, their differences borne from
faction rivalry, then by personal methods of Inquisition.
Three years have passed since The Duke’s eyes reported Yemen’s presence on
Armate – and with it a noticeable increase in cult activities. It seems that
Yemen has finally stepped into unbelief. That this planet has been chosen may
not be a coincidence, as it seems to harbour a large percentage of psychically
aware humans.
On his way to Armate, The Duke has ordered Yemen’s arrest. Forces of the
Inquisitorial arms have been seconded to aid primarily in the quashing of the
unbelief and secondly to make certain that the Dark Forces have no route through
these untutored minds. If apprehension is not possible, then all evidence to
condemn Yemen must be secured.
Chaos Briefing
Burning brighter than a thousand, thousand candles, the soul of a psyker can be
seen across the Warp by beings of unimaginable power and malice. The human world
know as Armate, residing in the Segmentum Pacificus has been shining like a
beacon these past thirteen years and is becoming increasingly brighter.
Disruptive dreams of promise have been gifted to some on Armate, prompting the
slow rise of a pseudo-religious cult dedicated to the psychic awakening of
Humanity. As the cults have become stronger it is apparent that total global
control is required and a coup d’état has been arranged. The twisted Astartes
Legions, those who walk as gods amongst men, angels of retribution and
revulsion, have begun their arrival in preparation for the next step.
The populace, grown fat and slovenly in their cities, must be led into the
wilderness and aid in the re-dedication of shrines to the elder gods.
Disruptive Forces Briefing
Dark Eldar. Our fey cousins have been too attentive of a mon-keigh world of
late. We must reap what they have sown, for what do they know of taking their
pleasures. The screams of psykers taste so much… sweeter when taken, than
asked for. A new playground beckons.
Tyranids. Fresh gene… Psychic sweet… Leviathan tendril dispatched…
Incorporation desired… Harvest imminent.
Orks. “Wozzit? Sumfin’s going off in da wild west and we ain’t got an
invite? Well, shoot, let’s just rustle us up a rok and get over dere before da
‘umies bust each uvvers guts.” Warboss Garrit started, “After all –
dat’s our job!”
Necrons. +++ pariah harvest is crucial +++ minimising of resource puts future
plans under threat +++ increase harvest +++ destroy threats to harvest +++
children of the ancient enemy must be hindered +++ destroyed +++ maintain
priority of harvest +++

I'm drumming up some additional interest for the big 40k 'Apocalypse' game at [elg] this Saturday (11am - 6pm).
Ideally we're looking for Necron, Chaos and Daemon armies, but if you're up for it you can bring whatever you like, it is Apocalypse after all!
Nick has been running big games like this for several years out at Heriot Watt, so he knows how to keep them running at a decent pace and you won't be playing with a bunch of random folk as it's all folks from [elg] signed up so far. (He's even built some new Necron-themed terrain in the 'Dawn of War' style for the board!)
There will be a small fee to cover room hire, so the more people that come the smaller that becomes.
There's a geek-play at the Fringe. Shevaun says there are funny bits, but that
it's "not a comedy". Details are below (and flyers at Black Lion Games).
ALSO, Rob Deb returns to the Jekyll & Hyde with "ROB DEB: DORK KNIGHT RETURNS";
Jul 31,Aug 1-25 21:25 (1hr). Rob has been (ir)responsible for two years of
geek-humour at the Fringe thus far - looks like he's going for his hat-trick.

Hello,
We're doing a play at the Big Belly Underbelly venue called 'The Sword of
Maximum Damage' as part of this years Edinburgh Fringe and thought it may be
something you and your fellow gamers might be interested in?
It's a fast-paced, quirky one-act comedy play set in the world of fantasy role
playing board games. I've attached the press release for you to peruse and also
the link to the venue page.

I'd love some real gamers to see the play, enjoy it and hopefully spread the
word! (Good, not bad that is!)
If you need any more info please feel free to get in touch on this email address
and I look forward to hopefully seeing you there to enjoy the violence!
All the best,
Adam Riches

Hi,
It's somewhat short notice, but we're holding a 1500 point Fantasy
tournament at Warhammer World, Nottingham on the 30th-31st August.
Tickets are 15, and places are limited (15 remaining at present).
Details can be found on our website
(http://www.northwestwarriors.org.uk/), where tickets can also be bought
online or an order form printed off for more traditional payment methods.
I'd appreciate it if you could pass the word along to the rest of the
ELG lads, having played some of them at Conflict it would be a pleasure
to see them down at our event.
Cheers,

Warhammer 40,000. If you're interested in taking a peek at the new book, playing

WFB League.
The Pyramid of Pain successfully kicked off last week, with 8 players getting
their first games in and two more players signing up! Ian Trudgett currently
resides on the Top Tier and is the man (well, Daemon!) to beat; as he gets only
1,500pts with which to form his army, he immediately secured a game against a
Second Tier (1,650pts) player so as not to suffer too much against lower-tier
bonuses. You can join at any time and will start at the bottom tier (currently
tier 4:1,950pts).

"In a quest to settle the ages-old dispute of who is the Best General, the
mighty heroes of The League have set off to battle once more. This time they are
certain to find their answer…"
The Pyramid of Pain league kicks off this Wednesday (June 4th).
- Generate a 1,000 point Warhammer army. This is the Core Force of your army and
must include one Hero character to act as the general. This must be a legal
force and cannot be changed.
- You may challenge anyone on the same tier, one above, or any below you on the
pyramid.
- The points you can use in your game have been set by your position on the
pyramid; you must use the 'Less than 2,000' charts in your army book and include
the Core Force.
- Use the Victory Chart to discover your points: Massacre 20/0, Solid Victory
17/3, Marginal Victory 13/7, and Draw 10/10. Remember to report your score.
Your first game on the 4th June will be at 1,500-points and the result will
detarmine your tier on the Pyramid. If you join after this date you have to
start on the bottom tier. Don't worry though as you get +150-points per tier
below the top spot!

attended last year and it's a great, vibrantshow.
NOTE: This year they are using Graeme High School for the venue.

For anyone who has not been involved inone of these battles before it is an opportunity for you to dust off all thosespare models you never use in your standard army, and put them to good use in atwo sided battle for control of the Imperium. The Battle will consist of two sides eachcontaining a dozen or so players, set over a 20 by 12 board.
The date of the battle is set for Saturday 17th May (Heriot Watt Week 5).

If you are interested in participating could you drop me a note(or see me) of what your army is and its points value rounding up to thenearest 250pt. (I.e. Army cost 750pts = 750pt list, Army cost 751pts = 1000ptlist).

Hi there
I am from the The Northumbrian Adventurers' Guild, another GCN club
Our club is holding a 40k Tournament.
It will be held on the 16/03/2008 at Blyth , Northunberland.
We'll be having a bit of a Christmas givaway this month at Stirling Wargamers! Our christmas all-day session is coming up this weekend on Saturday 15th December and as well as the usual all-day gaming goodness, we'll be using the day as an excuse to give away a number of gifts - some large and some small. We'll be open at our usual venue from 10am through to 6pm and everyone will have a chance of winning something so hopefully we'll see you then.
Rumours abound that there's life in the Slag yet... The intrepid Dave
Kane and friend will be taking their gangs into the dankest corners of
the Underhive to find out on 28th November.
Uncertain of the details, but I assume a week or two of familiarisation
will be in order before kicking off the campaign proper. Contact Dave
(dpk1@...) for more, or turn up next week to recruit your gang!
Cheers,
Andy (on behalf of Events Co-ordinator)
A non-festive message from Stirling Wargamers. Please go and accept their grand hospitality!

Hi everybody
I've just put up a ton of photo's of the work we (Nick, Tim, Andy and
Myself) did on the boards today, so go and have a wee look before
seeing them in person on wednesday.
We have three 6' by 4's, two 2' by 4's and two 4' by 4' painted and
textured grey cityscape boards which are pretty much finished just
add buildings.
We have one new 6' by 4' Desert board.
We have three 6' by 4's, two 2' by 4's and two 4' by 4' painted and
textured brown generic boards which are still to be flocked so those
will look like really nice when they're done.
We also now have a 2' by 4' and 4' by 4' board painted like a sea
scape, ie blue, perfect for any sea or air based game. We have
islands for it.
The city board have the old green on the other side and the brown
boards have black.
I hope you all enjoy the new boards and also hope to see you next
wednesday, where I'll be breaking in our new seascape with some
Aeronautica which everyone is welcome to try...
Happy Gaming
