I am currently trying to get an animal rights political party started in Britain. I got the idea when late at night a party political broadcast came on tv by the BNP. I instantly thought to myself if a racist group of thugs can use the system to peddle filth, we can use it to spread the truth and bring animal issues more out into the open, after all hasn't labour broke it's promise's and marginalised us even more.
In May 2007 the Welsh Assembly goes to the polls, that's around 60 seats to contest, if we contest a third of them we are entitled to a free (as far as I can ascertain) broadcast on all the tv channels, also the post office has to deliver a free pamphlet to each house in the constituency and the party would be entitled to free use of public halls during an election to hold a meeting.
While I concede many candidates may lose their deposit, the party is not about getting power but getting our message out their to a wider audience, instead of preaching to the converted, converting the unconverted, and if it succeeds to do that to just 1% I will consider it a success. Also by putting animal policies on the table we can hopefully bring about change in the main parties policies.
It is also looking likely that parties are going to be funded out of the public purse, so tax payers will ultimately fund us in the near future.
I believe that though we may make small inroads at the present in the future we could become as recognised as the green party and get members elected onto councils.
I am looking for support, people to run in the election, fundraise , etc.
Remember we have a good starting base in that there are 2 million vegeterian/vegans out there. Please contact me at smwrutherford@... .
